Hello all,
I am fairly new to the SxS market. I bought a 2018 1000-5 with the 12" steel wheels and am looking to upgrade my wheels and tires. This site has been a HUGE help in some of the mods I have done to the Machine. I wanted to thank everyone on here, as I have taken a little from a lot of different threads. At any rate, I am riding in Arizona where it is dry 90% of the time and sharp rocks are common place. I am thinking the stock tires are just asking to get popped and leave me stranded. I have been looking at various wheels and tires and my head is spinning. I think I like the STI Beadlocks for rims, but notice they offer 12" and 14" On my pickup I like smaller rims with more tire, not sure if that is smart with a UTV or not. Can I fit 28" tires without lifting my machine. I really do not want to lift, but am open to wheel spacers. I think I would prefer to have the same size tires and wheels all around, unless you guys tell me otherwise. Thanks for your time and I look forward to your responses.

I would say a 28" x 10 all the way around with 5x2 offset and 1" spacer in rear would be fine. I'm running 235-75/r15 with no lift and that rim and I'm good it's close but good ! Last pic shows where i added screws for full compression Mine measure 28.5 x 9.5 D0337c7e3ff7455453b40a8172277eb9239443598d09ac4086afc7dccab4a291A7ec2ed4fce0cf2b3eb6d9f2341dc36d28f0ba9335f7de00d0842a2b9403f759B90e7f372c609c7c8eda61bd782ed237D5c00282f8e8d83e75539b4e5ef41c9d5e5f85e5049dd566926d588cb6182c27B0735b3b380a92cac99ff8efeef40bd6

I love the look of your Machine! Is there any adavantage/ disadvantage to 12", 14" or 15" wheels? Some guys I ride/hunt with say that spacers cause premature wear of suspension components. Any truth to that? or simply opinions. I have so much to learn and probably need to slow down, but this machine is addicting!!

Thanks ,I just wanted to get the 15s for the light truck tire longer wear . 12"or 14" will ride better, more side wall ! 1" spacer on rear I'm good with but too much spacer could wear bearings out faster in my opinion . And front spacers mean you will need lift ,My 2 cents .Its a fun addiction to make it your own

I second that.

I went the same route just different tread. They will last forever and handle great.

28's will fit and I think most guys will agree that a 14" rim will ride better than a 15" rim when comparing the same diameter tire. How much better depends on who you ask.

Going to a 15" wheel opens up a ton more options in the light truck tire world.

Those Tusk Terrabites look pretty nice. If anyone has any other tires I should look at, let me know, otherwise I think I will just order up those terrabites. Thanks for all your guys knowledge, sure saves me $$ and heartache

I went through this recently and spent considerable time reading through the archives here to keep my head from spinning, as yours is now.

I'm far from a tire and wheel expert so I'm posting all of this from memory. Oh yeah, I tore a sidewall on a stock tire my first season of owning my '16 1000-5 Deluxe so I had that weighing on my mind to. So, with that said...

A poster on another forum I frequent rides in Arizona and he runs Tensor Regulators for their durability.

I went with Quadboss QBT846 28x10-14 which is a similar light truck style tire but slightly lighter and with a recessed rim guard and what appears to be a slightly more rounded profile than the Regulator. My local dealer stocks and recommends them for people wanting a light truck style tire.

I wanted to run the same wheel and tire size all around so I could carry a universal spare and rotate wheels. I went with a non bead lock STI rim in 5+2 offset. This offset puts me about an inch wider than stock in front and requires 1" spacers in the back to maintain the same track width.

6+1 offset will put you about an inch narrower than stock in the front. Spacers in the back still required if you want to keep the track width the same.

You can run an inch more offset in rear (than front) to avoid spacers but then you don't have the same offset rims and can't rotate.

So keep offset in mind if you want to go narrower, wider or identical to stock width.

My understanding is that a smaller diameter rim will allow for a taller sidewall and more flex but will run heavier than the same diameter tire on a larger rim. I don't know how significant this is or if bead lock vs non bead lock has an effect.

In reality, for what you're doing, there are probably 10 different tires I'd pick to put on your machine and all would suit you fine.

Terrabites are a good one to settle on. Post pics when you make the final decision.

Personally, I think a 28" tire will a bit much for the 500, IMO and would be looking at 25/26 options. The advantage with stock rims is cost (just buying tires) and it will limit you to some degree on type. The 14/15 get you into more a wide option of tire choices. Keep in mind, when you jump to 28" you are changing the balance/tip factor so spacers and/or other precautions would need to be considered. Remember keep the shinny side up...

Here is a nice video on some options,

Very interested in this thread and exploring options myself. As far as offset what do you guys that run the 10" wide tires all the way around think of the 5+2? If width isn't an issue would a 4+3 be better or cause more possible scrubbing?

I like 5+2 with a 1" spacer in the rear. My goal was to stay as close to 65" as possible but I'm definitely closer to 66 than 65 on the outside bulge of the tire. The wheel flange and tire tread are close to 65.

Guys don't want to hijack anybody's thread, I've done some searches and have come up empty handed. Have a friend with brand new Can Am Defender wheels with 27" bighorns never been ran he offered me cheap tonight. Question is will the factory can am wheels bolt up to the P1000? Sorry just didn't think this was worth starting a new thread.
