I ordered a replacement front left upper control arm for my 2021 Talon 1000R Live Valve on March 11, 2025 from my local dealership.
I bent it doing somewhat of a slow-motion twisted hand-stand coming down a steep hill/boulder.
Anyway, their system showed that the part was in stock with Honda and would arrive early the next week.
The next week, it was showing on backorder... ok... after another 2 weeks, the dealer said that said generally if I call as the customer, things generally get moving more quickly, so I called Honda Powersports Customer service and inquired. Did so again the following week.
A month after ordering, still on backorder, the dealer escalated the order and I called again... now I am getting impatient.
This is not a part for my 1985 Big Red... it is a 2021 $30,000 machine that is still in production!
I have plenty of aftermarket add-ons, but didn't want to go aftermarket on this because all other options look too heavy-duty... and if something has to bend or break, I'd rather it be a control arm than the frame -- plus, I want a replacement with factory specs so that I can tell if anything else is out of alignment.
I've spoken with someone who knows the Honda system pretty well... he said that it generally shows in stock, but goes into backorder because IS in stock, but is unfinished and just needs to be powder coated and shipped when it's ordered.
I called today and customer service said that it is still on backorder with no ETA "with no public information" on an ETA.... becoming a little irate, I asked them what the hell does "no public information" mean... and suggested they escalate this to someone who can call me to give me some "PRIVATE" information. I'm trying to support Honda and my local dealership by paying double their cost, which I wouldn't mind if I could only get some answers and decent service on a current bike!
Any suggestions?

Have you tried ordering a different color?
I believe the control arms changed in 23, so these may no longer be in production.

Do you mean March 11 2025? If you have been waiting since 2021... holy hell, it's time to try something different.

A salvage yard like sun coast cycles or powersports nation probably has several around as well.

I find it hard to believe one would knowingly wait numerous years for a suspension parts vs aftermarket or salvage parts.

Did you pay for the part? If not, i doubt you have much leverage if any at all with the dealer.

Lol - I ordered the longer shifter paddles for the Talon in 2022 from Ron Ayers. Then I forgot about them because they stayed on perpetual backorder. One day last year they showed up 🤣

My bad... March 11, 2025... yes... paid upon order, and no, haven't ordered a different color... my bike is like new - blue frame, why would I have to settle for a different color from a dealership/Honda when ALL parts for these bikes should be readily accessible?

They only told you that because they thought you had been waiting for years.

Check you receipt for the part number.
Then hit up Google and see if anyone has it in stock.
I'd bet even with shipping, an online dealer will be cheaper than full price at your local dealer.

I had that problem with a part for my P5. You'll probably have to start calling around to different dealers and hope someone has it in stock.
