What should Honda do Gen2 to be perfect?

50hp
5 gears(Maybe a low range?)
Steel or at least solid tailgate
27" tires factory
Roof about 2" lower with a factory flat roof.
Better glove box, under driver seat or hood storage.

Add power steering and a a spot for the 2nd battery under the hood. I’ve always said 5 gears with the first two being lower than they are now.

Would there still be a base and a delux? Part of the reason I didn't include PS. But with lower gears, we may not need a low range. The 1000 should be at about 100 hp tho and the 700 should be closer to 50. Imho

The 700 doesn’t need more power, it needs better gearing. The 1000 has plenty in stock form.

The Ranger 1000 xp is 82 hp. The Commander is like 95hp. I think the Honda's are more reliable but under powered in comparison.

They use belt drive, it’s not the same. On top of that, they can’t get all of that HP to the ground.

Thats a fair point. Idk, I know Honda likes to build perfection and then not touch it. Hence the 700 being a decade old platform. The 700 has done everything Ive asked of it to be fair

A ranger 1000 crew has a dry weight of 1,936 pounds, at 82hp that’s a hp to weight ratio of .042 the 1000-5 has a dry weight of 1689 pounds giving it a ratio of 0.42.

The 700 would be killer with a 5 speed transmission.

I would be 100% happier with them just adding storage, either under dash or under hood along with improving on the useless open pocket above the glove box.

The speed doesnt bother me although it would be nice if it had a higher gear which would quite down the top end noise

Pioneer 800 inline twin same transmission with low range about 42-50 hp. Top speed 50 . Flat roof. 3 more inches of leg room up front. Factory battery location widened to accommodate a full size car battery. Ball joint locations 4 inches forward from current location. Rear hubs center pushed back 2.5 inches.

I really think it would be fine with the hp it has now if it had a 5 speed. If mine would have had two lower gears I’d still have it. I like having a low range on the 1000 but when the machine in bound up it can be hard to shift it into low at times. Oh well, guess nothings perfect.

I would be 100% happy if it just had lower gears in the differentials or a 4 speed. and maybe redesign the roof\rollbar. I never go above 25 miles an hour so if they lowered the differentials where it topped out about 35mph id be happy as a clam. I normally putt around at 10mph or slower. I do prefer the torque converter over the dual-clutch so I wouldn't want to get rid of that

They lose a lot of that power through their CVT

My friend has a commander it puts out so much heat it makes a Pioneer seem pretty nice by comparison. It's also on its third rear end and second drive shaft. It is NOT abused. It only has around 1400 miles on it.

Biggest thing is if it was a 5 speed just like our 3 speed id say yes. But if its a dct id say no. Seems these can take alot more abuse than the dct in the transmission area. And after another reading another discussion id rather not have torque management cut out like the talon and p1k. Speed is never really an issue for me. The person i ride with the most is a 800 crew ranger and we are right at equal in every way both on portals, both on 32s. He cant go any bigger without rubbing. Neither can i. On gps he tops at 36 i top at 38. I have 1 more inch of clearance than he does. Id say twin motor to take out some of the vibration the big single has. And to add a few more hp. Even if it was just 10 thats 30% more power with the current drive train should hold up considering most the rincon sled pullers are running 55hp+ and nitrous through the same trans 15 yrs ago give or take lol.

If it only came with larger tires and a better skid, slightly better shocks it would be a major improvement . With the few mods I've done for my riding I am happy. I don't run around wide open sometimes there's pretty cool stuff to see in the woods.

I’m not talking about a DCT, a twin would refine the vibration for sure. As far as reliability with the DCT trans, I think it’s pretty good. Most failures are driver error. I know a guy with a 2016 that just now had the clutch up date done and never had an issue with his and he ain’t easy on it.

Yeah, that skid is an insult to skids everywhere. 😂

Yeah iv seen them go long like that but also the 700 doesnt have torque management. Wither it turns the tires or it doesnt. Sometimes that barely turning situations where the dct dethrottles and the auto 3 speed doesnt is the fine line on whether your going to pull a line out or keep going.
