Been the big toyhaulers route x2, considered the motorhome and enclosed trailer route, but what if already have a capable HD pickup and only make occasional trips and only need to sleep 2 people?

Seriously considering going the pickup camper route with an enclosed 28ft trailer for the toys.

After careful consideration decided on going with a Lance 850 Pickup camper.

A loaded lance etc. is $45k the capri is $18 k as pictured. Crapper is portable, it sets in shower stall with a removable cassette to dispose of what you put in it.

I've had quite a bit of experience with truck campers. And grew up with them. I love them for 2 adults. You got the truck. My opinion is the little older ones are better built but heavier. Which you don't have to worry about. I'd find a used lance on craigslist ect. You can get a helluva deal.

They have their purpose. And with an enclosed you have all the storage space you need.

I really like the 4 Wheel Camper pop ups, like what @100Acre Has (but without the extra tall 9.5' interior height)(and I'm thinking I don't need the 5 gallon bucket either).
At the takeover last year he kindly gave my wife the grand tour.
Got permission to replace the toy hauler but no budget.
(Its kind of a trick she pulls on me, have permission to park an antique bus behind the barn, but no budget for that)
Wife doesn't like the tent section due to her concerns about cold weather.

I'm thinking my 2nd choice is something on Craigslist cheap.

You can order a shell version with few to no upgrades in the four wheel camper line. You could, with the right skills build it out to fit your needs as well. I’d look at the Grandby model though, for that extra 2’ in length. All the FWC’s are made with a 6’6” interior height. Mine was a custom job and they no longer do custom campers. So, I have a one-off, one of a kind but I still wish I had that extra 2’. Some come with cassette toilets too. The Bucket was just much more affordable to use with tall kitchen garbage bags. The other reason I throw a Con their way is because of the pop top. Even with a thermal barrier, the vinyl sides suck for insulation in hard winter and popping the top up after a snow can be very difficult. Let alone lowering it with a snow load on the roof.

I like it but the one thing for you that I'm wondering is us old people have to pee once maybe twice a night soooo? Am I missing it or is it missing?

My 2cent as a person who worked on the pipeline at one time and lived in a camper what I learned.

If you are going to stay in a small space for a long period of time it is important to have a few certain things.
Food storage space. It just makes life easier
Nice Bath room/shower You will use this everyday.
Place for my outside stuff. (I'm not spending no more time then I have too inside so need chairs and stuff for outside)
Place for me to put a electric oven from Walmart. (gas puts off way more heat and gas cost electric is free)
Nice size fridge and freezer
Bigger the AC and heater the better. (I like having a place I can add a flat electric heater to the wall nice to look at also.) Saves gas
I try to only use gas for the water heater. (Then we just switch it on while showering that with a energy saver shower head and you never run out of hot water a must with kids) (Good energy saver shower head is GOLD)

I’d give just about anything for a proper pooper and shower in my camper. The FWC’s are great for excursions up to 2-3 months at a time and will beat a tent any cold and rainy day. But for long term, I’d rather have something with a little more amenities, comforts and weather durability. and an AC! Some of those western deserts are hot and AC makes a huge difference in hot or humid conditions. Especially when you’re trying to sleep.

Four Wheel Camper Hawk
I have a fully loaded Hawk with forced air furnace/thermostat. Sink with 20 gallon h20 tank, a two burner stove and a fridge freezer with a sliding queen sized cab over bed and a roll over couch that’s makes a nice single size. It has lots of cabinet and under the couch storage. I also carry an on demand hot water shower for use with the outside shower hookup. I run two AGM Group 31 batteries and charge them while driving and/or from a flat mounted rigid 100 Watt solar panel on the roof. Empty, the camper weighs 1,440 lbs.

Doody bucket doubles for desert laundry duty... wag bags layered deep keeps receptacle sparkling and clean!
Sanitation is important in a small camper but, I also need to consider space saving remedies. I keep two square 5 gal buckets at the end under the couch. One is for wags. The other is for storing 30+ lbs of dog food. Different kind of wag...
