I seen one on a big F350 8’ bed truck like mine with 2 big slides. I thought it was cool. I always thought pickup campers were neat. It’s just finding the right size for your needs especially when the wife has to travel with you lol.

As a kid dad was stationed in Albuquerque . We traveled every summer all over the county in a cab over camper . Then when we got stationed in Fairbanks Alaska we traveled the Al-Can hiway in late October in it . That was a adventure in 1970 !

Been the big toyhaulers route x2, considered the motorhome and enclosed trailer route, but what if already have a capable HD pickup and only make occasional trips and only need to sleep 2 people?

Seriously considering going the pickup camper route with an enclosed 28ft trailer for the toys.

After careful consideration decided on going with a Lance 850 Pickup camper.
Good choice, Lance makes some good stuff.

Nice unit Jackal!

Thanks guys, should fit the bill just right. After driving with it, hitting Walmart etc. realized it's only 4" wider than my dually rear wheel fenders and sits flush with rear bumper. Having a live rearview camera helps tremendously.

Looks nice, now how you going to get your old bones in it, and are you going to need a hitch extender?
No extension needed, rear of camper is perfectly flush with rear bumper.

Using a step ladder temporarily until I get the enclosed trailer then will fab up steps that slip over the hitch frame and remove (slip on / off ) prior to transport.

I can only imagine, on the Al-Can hwy trip!

My most memorable family outing 1980, (My DAD NEVER took formal vacations) when I was 14 Dad got a cab-over pickup camper setup in a 1980 Chevy Dually crew cab pickup and we (4 of us) hit the road from IL on a 3 week loop an odyssey throughout the West, remember Vegas going to the Circus Circus Casino - this country boy never saw light like that ever before, did the usual Grand Canyon / Yellowstone / Roswell & Kingman AZ / the whole schpeel. That trip was pretty cool as its the first time I remembered doing anything with both parents at the same time.

My Lance 850 MSRP at $43,885 bought it OTD $28,350
It just kills me that they cost as much as a towable that's 3x the size.

I suppose it's just like the sprinter van/RV versus a "regular" motorhome....

I guess it's the price you pay to be able to go more places....

So in my quest for versatility with the truck and camper I explored where people mounted the slide in camper on a flatbed. This allows 24" x 24" x72" of storage along the front portion of flatbed under the sides of the camper.

Such as this setup:

So went on a search finding a dealer with a stack of beds been sitting 2 yrs. Ending up getting this setup $3k off the $6500 MSRP for new 2020 units after the aluminum tariffs kicked in. $3600 installed. CM AL-SK flatbed 8'6" x 97" x 58 x 42
4 under bed storage cabinets and skirted all around. Has 26k B&W gooseneck built in and 14.5k B&W rear bumper pull hitch all integrated in a steel frame under aluminum body.

Now to mount my camper and storage solution.
