With 475 CC you don't have hp or torque to spin tires in heavy mud. Especially at my elevations, we live at 5K ft and ride up to 11K ft. Losing 10% of hp for every 1K above 5K doesn't leave a lot left over when you start with a 1000 pound machine and 350 pounds of people and gear.
I've seen a few comments about the super low 1st and 2nd in the 500, so ironically, the 500 may do a better job at high elevations than the 700.

I live and ride at just over 6000 feet and I have not had an issue with power. I will be at 9000 this weekend. I think I will be fine. But I do agree that the pioneer doesn't have the explosive power when needed for mud. But the where and how I ride the pioneer has fit the bill fine. Will have to wait and see what happens this weekend.

Was at 14k, not on the Pioneer, significant loss of power.

DG I can see how the altitude would really cause an issue with a 675cc motor, I could tell a huge difference between sea level and 7000' and a MUCH bigger one between 7k and 14k. We had two vehicles and the V8 was not as slowed down by it as the V6 was.

Yeah, bet my buddy I could beat him the last ~100yds to the summit. Had to be a 3 min 100 yard dash, it's quite possible our wives walked there faster. The partial pressure of O2 is pretty low up there.

Near sea level in central AL (500-1500' depending on what part of the area) there's enough of power to spin the tires out of mud, but I could def see it struggling at 9k.

Maybe a turbo/supercharger would help up there? Just make sure it didn't compensate add extra fuel, just compressed the air?

I will report back. Where I am going should be all mountain trails. No steep hill climbs that I know of. But where we are going it also sounds like we will be contending with some snow still. So the weekend may be interesting. I will be with two rzrs and one maverick. They obviously will have the power.

Watching the videos on the 500, I think it will be able to spin the tires in thick mud. The low 1st gear will get it through.

Now there are 2 different types of spin. If you are talking high speed, throw mud everywhere spinning they yes. I agree it might not be able to do that.
But I'm sure it will get out of any mud hole thick or thin.
Can't wait to get one.

No I'll flat out state the 700 won't win any mud bog competitions, with long travel or highly lifted set ups and super tall tires.

But 2-3 inches of lift and 27"s,(not at 9k feet) I don't see it being a huge issue if you're just trying to clean the tires and get through the hole.

Now, If you're intentionally just trying to cover the guy 45' behind you.... You're just an A-Hole in my opinion.

That's exactly what I'm saying. I had the pioneer goin up a hill with soft mud. I wasn't even bottoming out but couldn't spin the tires to get up the hill. Sometimes you need to spin the hell out of tires to get thru mud. That's my issue.

Some of the early production had a chance of the spark arrester clogging up and reducing power have you checked that ?

I am at lower altitude but I don't have any issue spinning the tires up a hill if feel like it.

Ive had mine to 40 on a straight run, a little higher going downhill. More than 40 for a legnth of time will kick in the govenor.
I understand the "need for speed" some folks express but I have to say the opportunity to go much faster in the woods rarely presents itself.
On a more pratical note, Ive had the P500 in some pretty rough terrain so far. Never missed a beat, didnt need to use 4WD once!

Top speed is at least 40 took my dad for a spin on mine around the lake the first weekend I had it thought I would test out the speed had it to 40 pretty easy. Got back to the cabin found out I was still in 4w drive. Not sure but figure one guy in two wheel drive can go faster

@mikeyd, I'm not sure about that company. Haven't read many (or any) positive results on any brand.

How's the acceleration up to 30? Will it cruise at 35 comfortably? Looking at getting a 500 but concerned about power. Don't care about going 50 but do drive down roads at 35 occasionally and wondering how well it will handle it. Thanks.

I ride on back (gravel/dirt) roads at a sustained speed of 40 with no problem. The rev limiter kicks in at 42.
