Extremely curious about your doors! Do you have a post about how you did them?
They were on it when I purchased. Joe Kocienski built them but I don't think he does anymore. Framed with some round metal and covered with some HDPE. They were ok but Hinges were not great. I think I sold to someone @TripleB knew. I don't know if they used or not. I miss the Ole P500

So, finally forcing myself to "hurry-up" and get this long over-due project finished: modding the rear rack on my P500 into a basket rack:

The start-

Remove the rear rack and fenders - wow! that is quite the air intake muffler!

Rack on the floor for measuring and use as a template

IMG 4343

First bend in the matching 1" tubing that I am making a "copy" of the OE rack outer perimeter

Making the last bend to close the loop

All bent with the end seam welded.

Next step is to finish cutting all the up-right supports and welding to the OE rack. I then plan to put metal mesh on the "floor" of the rack and around the sides.

Metal mesh:

I'll post more as I get it done!

@trigger- the tube bender is an old JD-squared Model 3 bender. I believe I bought it back in 1995 when I was doing race car stuff. Have 1", 1-1/2" and 1-3/4" OD dies for it. Ironically, I only bent 1-bar to add to the drag car cage and that was it for race car stuff. I then went on to use it to bend up 3 complete roll cages for Jeep CJ's and one for a '82 Toyota pick-up that the guy was making into a pre-runner. After that, it has just been a few small projects here and there.

Last year I broke it out to build a bumper for my riding buddy's new YXZ. He wanted this bumper:

But the company that made it stopped doing so 2 years ago. So we made our own copy:

Have to zoom in to see ot on the machine in this pic:
IMG 4725

Actually, bottom picture was the first version and the middle picture was the final. First version stuck out too much and made the machine not fit in the garage of his toy hauler. So the rounded point got cut off and made flat.

One of these days I'll use it to make a roll bar or maybe a cage for my S-10 Blazer as well as bumpers and suspension parts. But that project has been sitting for 23 years now.

Week-end update:

I had about 4 hours to work on this over the weekend and I got this far after 3 hrs. of cutting and notching the vertical tubes. I tacked it together and did a test fit.

Oops! Should have put everything on the machine then tacked it:
16 rack mounting holes do not line up

That's up against the R.O.P.S. - mounting holes do not line up! Well, cut it apart and try again......

Fixed my problem last night- the "V"-shaped bar on the back of the R.O.P.S. sticks out further than the rest of the R.O.P.S. and my 8-inch higher rack top rail ran into that bar. So I altered the design last night:

It's not as pretty as I would like- rushing this project because I need to use the P5 this Friday for racecourse set up for the first quad race of the season.
