I realize it's probably different depending on the dealer, but how easy is warranty work if the dealer you buy from is 3½ hours away? Can you go to the local place without a hassle? I found a blue x lv whick is our preferred color for pretty much the same price. 2 local places have 1 sport model between them. They just don't seem to have what I'm looking for ever. City of 100,000 people if you were looking for a polaris, they'd probably give you one however

But back to my question, how do you think dealers treat people who need work done but didn't buy from them?

You pretty much answered your own question in the first sentence of your post #20: Depends on the dealer.

They should treat you like any other paying customer. Stealerships earn their reputations both good and bad though. So unless someone has experience with the specific stealership in question you’re not really going to get great advice.

I’ve never had an issue with trucks, sxs, atv - the smart dealers don’t give a s*** since the money is in warranty and service work. I’ve never had someone ask - did you buy it here? - just yep, bring it in and let’s get whatever done.

My buddy has a smaller Honda dealership, just tells me, don’t blame ya for getting it cheaper somewhere else - I’d do t the same thing.

It’s not like if u buy a truck from dealer X , and take it to dealer Y they are gonna short ya a quart of oil because u didn’t buy the truck there.

Maybe there are dealers that have list A for customers who bought whatever at their dealership, another list for those who didn’t, and they review this religiously and for those that bought somewhere else they move them to the end of the line, give them marginal parts, shoddy repairs, etc. I just haven’t experienced that.

I will share a story.

Local to me Honda dealer did not want to play well on price when I wanted to purchase a pioneer from them. I went out of my way 1.5 hours to a powersports dealer and got an awesome deal.

Close friend of mine purchased his pioneer from the local Honda dealer. His thought was they would take care of him.

My friend had 30 miles on his unit, 4WD did not want to engage properly. He took it to the local dealer. When he picked it up he was charged for an adjustment. When he raised concern he was told it was not part of the warranty coverage. After arguing he still left paying. I asked him why. He said he didn't want to burn bridges. 200 miles later my friend had a nasty click from a CV joint. He took it back to the local Honda dealer. They declined warranty coverage because he had switched tires. My friend had a complete stock machine. He switched the factory tires to kenda bear claw to be able to check cattle easier. He kept the factory tire sizing front and rear. Kept the factory wheels. No lift. A literal tire change. They told him the tires caused excessive wear on the drive train. Short story is that my friend is pissed and has plans to change to can am based solely on his experience with the local dealer. My friend is a support local mentality type person. He would rather switch brands if it means better customer support. This is not the only bad story I have heard from my local Honda dealer. Just my most personal experience. Other than when I tried to buy a pioneer I was told price would not change a penny. The salesman told me to my face if I don't want to pay for it then they will find someone who will.

I paid $1500 less for my 1000-5 deluxe machine OTD than my friend did for his base 1000-3.

I called my salesman at the powersports dealer just out of curiosity. I told him my machine was not shifting into 4WD properly at the time. I had around 150 miles. My salesman told me they would take care of it. I explained to him what happened to my friend with his driveline adjustment. The repsonse I got was that is unfortunate. No machine should have issues being that new. If Honda won't cover it I will. I will take care of you. The only reason I didn't go to the dealer was because he was so far away and I did the adjustment myself.

It is always good to ask around.

Similar to my experience with my arctic cat dealer. While under warranty the salesman told me they aren't in the business of giving away parts. They used to be a dealer for most major brands, now they're mostly lawn mowers and Chinese brands.

Nothing wrong with $1500+ in your pocket vs. theirs for not being loyal. Some want to deal, some don’t - owner choice.

To each their own - get into a machine and enjoy and ride safe!!!!
