The concern is after the R2C, not before it…
How does intake air get to the R2C filter?
Hint: I posted a picture of it above...

Exactly why I have a prefilter, I can easily check its condition and R&R quickly (I have a spare ready to go). A lot of guys are hesitant about cutting a 3" hole in a body panel but I got over it when I weighed the advantages.I would say the prefilter is a great idea, especially if you can see it like the one above everytime you walk around yoir machine.
Pick up one of these Spectre filters and a FilterWears cover. I run this 95% of the time. I switch to the snorkel head if the weather looks like it's not going to cooperate.I’ve got a Warrior riser with a dinky little screen filter. I might have to upgrade to a better pre filter. K&N any good?

Yes of course a pre filter is good insurance, but I can’t see how it provides protection for a main filter failure….🤔I would say the prefilter is a great idea, especially if you can see it like the one above everytime you walk around yoir machine.
Do you know if that’s available for the Talon???Pick up one of these Spectre filters and a FilterWears cover. I run this 95% of the time. I switch to the snorkel head if the weather looks like it's not going to cooperate.

This was my stock filter at close to 2k miles, not bad at all

It's a generic air filter, you can put it on anything.Do you know if that’s available for the Talon???

So the R2C broke into pieces and got sucked into the engine destroying it or did the filter split somewhere and let dirt past it ruining the engine? 🤔Yes of course a pre filter is good insurance, but I can’t see how it provides protection for a main filter failure….🤔
Yes essentially, although at this point the extent of engine damage isn’t known….So the R2C broke into pieces and got sucked into the engine destroying it
And what will that do for you if your R2C main filter disintegrates and gets sucked down the two adjacent intake tubes……🤔10-80 Dirt Sports sells a universal R2C prefilter along with an optional outerwears style cover. It fits a 3"OD tube and comes with a clamp. It's a non-oiled style filter with a semi open element that doesn't restrict flow to the main filter like using a K&N or other "air filter" will.
After every race I take the pre filter off, tap the dust out and rinse the outwear sock in the sink. Easy peasy

Well that’s fine. But what you first said to me that got this going was that you had no worries because you had a pre filter….so for posterity it needed to be cleared up….👍Like I said in my earlier posts... I'm not worried about that happening. I throughly go over my car (think OCD X10) after every race including inspecting the air box and filter, so if anything starts looking funky with the rubber around the filter, like cracks, I'll catch it long before it starts falling apart and becomes a problem. And if I find that this new style filter is junk like the last version I'll be the first one talking $hit about it on this forum.
The fact that R2C is changing the design of the filter to prevent future issues says alot about their company IMO.
That seems like R2C would have just said that to people, clean your damn filter and you’ll have no problem….😂 But instead, they’ve acknowledged a design problem and they have redesigned it…Looks like to me, if the r2c filter gets loaded up, it sucks the gasket out of the plate going around the filter.
If our forum member whose engine may be trashed, is taken care of by R2C, that will say a lot about them….The fact that R2C is changing the design of the filter to prevent future issues says alot about their company IMO.
