Just recently changed oil on the wife's Honda Pilot, have always let the dealer do it as it seems like that's only about $10 more than doing it yourself..... But the dealer was booked up until sometime in the next century, so had to do it myself, wasn't too bad.... Looking at the Pioneer, it looks like a mess, (Haven't done it yet) but less of a hassle than putting on the trailer, towing it to Reno, paying what they want..... I'm sure I'll end up doing it myself.....
Do yourself a favor and take the skid plate off before draining the oil and especially the filters. It takes longer cleaning up the oil spilled on skid plate, frame and floor than the R&R of the skid plate.

My skid plate is one piece, so no way am I taking it off to do an oil change. That'd add another hour and 6 ounces of dirt in my eyes.

I just do it out on the dirt instead of the garage floor, and put cardboard under it to catch any drippings.

The area that caught the majority of the drippings (waterfalls) was on top of the skid plate. Maybe you enlarged your drain holes before skid plate installation. Especially bad from sub trans and engine oil that have the horizontal plugs.

Maybe I'm missing something but do you need to change oil at 600 miles? My service manual maintenance schedule says you dont need an oil change until 1200 mi/200 hours after the initial one at 100mi/ 20 hours? Or does everyone change theirs every 600?

You can change them at any interval that you like. I‘ve been following the owners manual every 1200 miles for oil after the first change at 100 miles and every 2 years +/- for the sub trans and diffs.

You know what..
You are exactly right.
Honda says the oil is good for 1200 miles.
600 mile service is just some basic checks.

Only reason it caught my eye is cause I just did that service on mine and I thought maybe I missed something, but 600 seemed like a pretty short interval.

What's an approximate cost for the 600 mile/100 hour maintenance interval service?

Thank you

At a local dealer in Indiana it cost me about $475 for the 600 mi. service.
