I like the idea Pete, my intentions were to start royal blue and go to Winrock. However, I do like your proposal of leaving out Saturday morning for the long trip and spend Friday afternoon doing a little shakedown run right there local to the Royal blue Campground.

Thanks for bringing that up, I like it

But... You already know and did royal blue!
You need to start at the hotel/store there at the highway and explore south towards windrock.

I figure we're all more comfortable with navigating Royal Blue in the dark, so we can ride till our hearts are content Friday night, then crash there and head straight to the interstate crossing Sat morning. There is a segment between Windrock and Royal Blue on the West side of the interstate that doesn't have any maps (that I'm aware of), so taking on that section first thing Saturday morning makes the most sense to me.

That's my point. Start the "exploration" fresh on Saturday morning with the Windrock boundary as our destination for that evening.

Peat.. I will have to review your maps to night of windrock.
Have you been to windrock?
I been 4 times.

All "G" trails are 100% gravel road. This will be a dust feast.

I have the route from 2014 group rode.
And for 15 where I set a goal to avoid gravel roads.

Yes, I've ridden most of it. And yes the gravel sucks. Notice there isn't much of it on my list... only a few short segments. There's no way to avoid it if you want to ride from one end to the other... half of all the trail there is gravel road...

At windrock. Why did you not close 1 - 2 - 16 - g1 - 11.
Coming down near the 16/18 connection this will be easy. Plus there was a new by pass for the hill.

Lol.. Disregard my post. That entire area has need conquered and will be easy. (speaking of area around windrock)

I guess we need to find someone with experience on page 2 of the large windrock map?

I didn't chart any gravel road on page 2 of the map. its all blue.

have you done 16 and 9? I wanted to get over there and try out 12... If 16 is not too harsh, we could use it to cut a large portion of G1... I was trying to somewhat limit the amount of black diamond since we have a lot of ground to cover...

Yes.. We did 16 with the entire HondaSxS group ride 2015.
There was a new bypass at the end near 18 allowing us to get to g1. Plus it will be down hill for us since we are going towards windrock and want be hard at all. D1b8c5da3f40fc63414f7bd3b65b0535

I have not done 9... I don't think. Trying to find 2014 GPS route as we had a guide that took us all they way to black 72... Block 19/Q on the map.

either 9 or 12... both are black diamond and end up in the same place... I had charted 12... its a little longer and is on the back side of the park where most folks probably don't go...

we did 22 last time I was there and it was pretty challenging for a blue trail... harder than some of the black diamond that we did that day. that whole loop that I have charted to the west of the trailhead is primarily so we can do 22 and 82/83... those are all fun. But we can decide on Sunday when we get there whether we feel like going over there or not. It would be easy enough to just do 16 to 2 to the parking lot on Sunday if we're beat at that point. that would cut off about 7 or 8 miles of the Windrock 40.

Ya, we did 22 several times too. Since we will be going down, it will be easy also.. rain or sine.

Well... Got to go.. We got plenty of time to plan it.

We can put both routes on the list and decide based on time.

The GPS tracks on the below link cover everything from KY state line down to I-40 (Windrock), includes all gravel roads needed to connect the trails etc.

Trail areas included are: Royal Blue WMA, Sundquist WMA, New River WMA, Brimstone, and Windrock / Coal Creek. More than 1,000 miles of OHV trails and roads. All trails are color coded by trail difficulty (Can also be seen in the Readme.txt file after downloading).
