Do y'all do it only when stopped? Or do you shift on the move? And what about from low to high, on the move or not?

I'm new to the Pioneer, but according to everything I have read, shift only when stopped.

That's what they said in the Yamaha world.

The transmission PHLR, must be at complete stop otherwise you’ll take it out in short order.

The differentials, the book says complete stop, but a great many including myself shift it on the fly like current and old pickups can do if the front hubs are locked, provided that all wheels are moving equally.

What you do is up to you.

I do the same. I just make sure I'm not on the throttle when I shift from turf/2wd/4wd/4wd lock.

I have owned several Pioneers. I have shifted from turf to 2x4 to 4x4 to diff lock and back all on the fly, rolling, with NO THROTTLE.
Most whom I have ridden with do the same.
No issues to report of.

Book does say to stop before changing.

Good to know, I'll have to try that.
Back in the day I would shift my car and truck without using the clutch using that technique.
I also do that with my motorcycles. Trick is to match the engine revs to transmission gear rpm, with no load on transmission gears.

There's a safe way and and then there's an expedient way. Or as Clint would say, "You have to ask yourself one question. Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya' punk?".

(I was a rookie cop in Oakland, CA when that movie came out . . . loved it!)
