Looking for ideas for storage in the Talon?

I have bought and returned several different storage boxes and tool box combinations. Finally found a decent setup for me but always looking for better ideas.

I ended up with a cheap Contico storage locker and cooler from Walmart. While the storage locker isnt the best quality and a little flimsy, it does fit awesome. Also found a 30 can cooler that fits nicely inside the box and leaves plenty of room for tools, recovery gear, etc. I used it over the weekend with straps holding it down but plan to mount it more permanently. It was a nuisance taking the straps on and off every time I needed a beverage.

Here are some pics of my setup. Please share yours!

Any idea if that setup works with the AM tailgate???

Not familiar with that tailgate, Montecresto. But, if the mounting points intrude much into the bed area, I'd say that it probably would NOT work with my setup. Frankly, I'm seriously considering going with TerryH's solution in lieu of my own.

Yes cooler was from Walmart. Not the greatest but works for a day trip. The large cargo box is no longer available at walmart though.

Thanks. I just ordered the Contico box from Walmart. Couldn’t find it in the stores though.

Thanks Steve, I just bought that box as well. I’m going to see which one I like best between it and Contico....

Its not a real heavy duty box, but it works ok. I am working on redoing my storage for a 4 seater. Need more storage and especially a bigger cooler for 4 people.

So what do you plan on using in your X4 now?

I posted this in my build thread but though I'd share it here as well. As some others have done I went for the Tractor Supply 32" box. Few mods to make it function better. I deleted the hasp and replaced with 2 rubber cooler latches from Amazon. I mounted 4 D rings from Harbor Freight to allow use of the factory D rings to secure the box using some 1" nylon straps I got on Amazon. Foam weatherstripping to help seal the lid but may do something different. More experimenting this weekend with other seals. 30 can Coleman soft side cooler also from Amazon fits perfectly.

Wow! That looks like the ticket right there. Did you use the soft cooler that he has? If so, how many cans with a bag of ice will really fit?

That's my video. The Coleman soft side cooler says it's a 30 can but don't see how they get that number. We used a couple of the Ozark Trail ice substitutes which left room for about 6 bottles of water and a couple of sandwiches. Worked ok when it was cool but those ice substitutes would not keep the contents cold in the heat. That's why we went to the bigger cooler on the rear rack.

I found that these work better for that application. I have the info in the show notes on the video.
How do I access the “show notes” for the video. Thank you Terry. Nice video.

There are notes right under the video. Click on "show more" in the video description. Several links and such there. The bolts holding the D rings are 1/4-20 3/4" long. The machine screws holding the lower portion of the latches are #10 and I believe they are 1 1/4". The upper portion of the latches are attached with #10 sheetmetal screws as there is no access to the inside of the lid in that area. I'll have to go back and review the exact fastener sizes. I'm at work so won't have access until tonight.

I think I’ve gathered up all of the necessary hardware for the install...👍
