Saxon Mtn. Colorado, the back way between Idaho Springs and Georgetown.

Band width alert, cell phone picture extravaganza of Saxon Mountain. Most of these photos were taken from the nosebleed seats ~11,500 feet.

That's Georgetown, Kalirado and I-70 in the lower right and the paved road to Guanella Pass headed toward the upper left. That's also the access for the Argentine Pass area.

Well @Lil_Steve pinal mtn countinues to defeat me...

Feeling better physically, so I made it across the washout that stopped me last time with relative ease...

But, as my trail sense told me, there was more. After this you cross two big washes, and the 2nd was washed out back against the bank. I didn't take pics because I was kinda bummed. A quad could probably turn sharp enough to go down it in a area where cows had been climbing it, but there is simply not room in a SxS to hit it at the proper angle to keep from tipping. Maybe next year...

So I backtracked and took a side trail over to what looked to be a mine labeled as "Bellview" on maps. FS road (if thats what is was) was surprisingly steep in places, so erosion was an issue, and down near the mine, there was a big rut on a steep section. It can probably be done, but I suspect this may be private property, so I will do some research and maybe go back...

Speaking of this mine: it look like you once could have accessed this from the east, but this road and a couple of others have been closed by "MF ranch", even though there is still old signage referencing it...

I wonder which politician got donations to allow this?

Lots of old roads dot this area...

At least you're getting out, daily grind has been defeating me, it's been several months since I've had a ride worthy enough to participate in this thread. Cant wait to get back out there, especially since we've received a decent amount of rain this season.

In the meantime, thanks for bringing all of us along for the ride. 👍

Turns out the actual name of the mine is the Gibson mine.

A few pix from my recent trip to the Lake City, Colorado. We camped at a site that was at 9800 feet for 11 days. The Pioneer ran flawlessly. Did Engineer Pass, Animas Forks, Cinnamon Pass and the Alpine Loop one day. We got snow as we reached Engineer Pass. Spent the rest of the time in the Alpine Plateau/Arrowhead area. Put on about 450 miles. Going to make it an annual trip, and spend more time exploring the Alpine Loop next year.
