A few pix from my recent trip to the Lake City, Colorado. We camped at a site that was at 9800 feet for 11 days. The Pioneer ran flawlessly. Did Engineer Pass, Animas Forks, Cinnamon Pass and the Alpine Loop one day. We got snow as we reached Engineer Pass. Spent the rest of the time in the Alpine Plateau/Arrowhead area. Put on about 450 miles. Going to make it an annual trip, and spend more time exploring the Alpine Loop next year. @Tramguage1 we doing a club ride there next year?
Looks absolutely stunning there.
Might need to start sucking up to @Hondasxs to get invited on thease rides.

Stone Fly's are the fly of choice here. 6-7 WT rods also, this is no wimpy river. Can you pick out the hot spots? Several in that picture.

I've been through there a few times the last couple of years and there's always bee's swarming around it. I've always heard bee's were attracted to the color yellow but thought it was a myth?

They seemed worse yesterday than previous times. I wonder who owns this thing? Thinking about calling Heavy D Sparks to see if they want to "rescue" it.

EDIT: looking at your pic compared to mine yesterday illustrates just how green the monsoons have the desert right now.

Yeah, my riding buddy and I were commenting on how green things will be once we start getting back out there soon because of all the rain we've received. Hope it wont be too bad for my allergies, sometimes my nose will run nonstop when it's bad.

The local elk are getting antsy, the young guys are getting run off by the big boys. Caught these two hanging out closer to the harem than they should.

Very nice photos, thanks for sharing them with us. I really enjoyed my recent visit to your state, I have two trips to Colorado planned for next year. Rabbit Valley in mid May and Alpine Loop/Alpine Plateau in September.

Lake City and the Alpine Loop are magic (if you don't get altitude sickness). Recently retired dirt biker but didn't have the skills to ride the ROCKIES. But the SxS has opened up the entire state to me, it's like getting a do-over and there are thousands of miles of mining roads here, many of them above timberline. I'm in SxS heaven and only have to travel one state over to be in Utah's magnificent red sandstone desert.

I love the open vistas whether the high country or the desert, so my year is full.

Last high country ride last year, Red Cone Peak - 12,801 feet elevation. Those are snow clouds and the season shut down that night. 😢
