Late start and forgot to bring my "break bag" with tire plugs and everything. So a little paranoid all day, and even considered going home. Glad I didn't, as it turned out to be a great ride in and around Silver king canyon.

Small trail led to one of the best Vistas yet...

The most famous resident: Celia Blaylock. Most of the world knows her as the former Ms. Wyatt Earp...

It's remarkably green there. I'm surprised Ms. Blaylock's grave hasn't been 'upgraded' over time, that's a very simple marking given that she was Wyatt Earp's wife.
Mini monsoon season has everything green. Had like 3 days of rain this week.

As far as the grave, there are probably several reasons for this:
1) You need a high clearance 4x4 to get to it the way I did. There may be an easier way, but it's largely forgotten and off the beaten path. The fence/gate is a relatively recent addition helped out by True West magazine. Before that, it was apparently completely open. More on that later...

2) Religion. She was a laudanum addict, prostitute, and on top of that, she committed suicide.

3) After Earp abandoned her (and that's basically what he did), his "new" wife Josephine Marcus actively attempted to censor many less flattering details from their past. So it's likely that many had no ideal who she was until more modern times.

Ok...so getting back to Pinal cemetery...

From 2010 or so through 2016, I lived up in central AZ. During that time one of the true west magazines I bought had an article about them building a fence and a gate for the cemetery. It was the typical biased article, And while it didn't come right out and say it, it implied that ATV riders were running amok in the cemetery. I had my suspicions about this at the time, then honestly forgot about the place until I rode by it a few weeks ago.
Just as I expected, without the fence and gating there is little to indicate that there is a graveyard here until you nearly trip over a marker. Hard to stay out of something you don't know is there.
But at least now, there are no worries of this happening again.

More of the markers, and the plaque...

Doing my part to stop the spread...

But enough with the doom and gloom already!

Returned to Fortuna peak to visit the mine that bears its namesake, but this narrow canyon had washed badly, leaving me to hike a bit up steep slopes. I found a tailings pile and what looked to be part of an old boiler buried in the ground, but no shafts...

Including this one marked as "Barnett Camp" on topo maps. It is a 1 room dwelling that uses 2 large rock formations as natural walls. To tell the truth, I had ridden by this several times and was unaware that it was there until a chance mention on a Facebook page.
I did some Google searching, but was unable to come up a definitive answer. One person even claimed that it was a one room jail cell to house prisoners until they could be transported to Superior, but I found no evidence to support that.

Riding Parks back East may be closed, but the desert is open for business. This was the most crowded I've seen the OHV parking areas since I've been here, so it seems a lot of the folks that are shut down would have rather been riding anyway.

Nice pics too!!
Thanks! That was my first ride on them and they did not let me down. We got in thick/deep mud, hard pack, and loose/hard rock inclines. I put it in 4wd twice to pull out 2 others and then to go through that same spot i pulled them from😎
