P1000 Strengthening tailgate

To fill my deer feeder, I have to stand on the tailgate of my pioneer 1000-5. Between my 200lb ass, a 40 or 50lb bag of corn and the Texas summer heat the tailgate droops quite a bit, so much that the cable brackets are slightly bent.

I have read the threads about filling it with foam, but I'm not sure how effective that would be in my case. I'm thinking I could use some thin steel plate on the inside with a strip of angle iron welded on top for a cap. Maybe 3/4" plywood would work.

Any thoughts?

I used 1/4" lexan with windshield urethane and plastic pop rivets over dence expanding foam. It's very solid. Doubles as storage box.

Heres what i did. I used a double layer of 3/4 plywood, capped it with steel angle iron on top and bottom and coated with rattle can bedliner. Made aluminum pillars and bolted through the outside latch plus attached bottom angle iron with self tapping screws to the hinge bar. Very solid, but a little heavy.

My kid backed mine into a tree and bent the bar that pivots the tailgate. Since I'm taking it off to fix it I may as well strengthen it. Thanks for the ideas.
