P1000 Synthetic rope size

Can I go from 5/16 cable on 5500lb winch and replace with a 1/4 10000lbs synthetic breaking strength??? Options for 5/16 are just limited is why I ask

I would do it and not think twice about it.

Yes u can but u have to change fairlead roller to the hawse style. the rollers will tear the rope up.

I didn't even realize it said he had cable lol. X2 on the fairlead.

This is what I have on my HF 5000lb winch. Works great.


It’s not absolute that you need to remove your roller fairlead. As long as the rope can’t pinch on it, the rollers are free rolling and without burrs and dings, synthetic ropes work just fine.

I’ve got two years on mine, and plowed all last winter with it. It’ll easily last another year of plowing.
