P1000 tailgate angle?

anyone know why the tailgate sits at the upward angle it does rather than level with he bed like other utv's. thoughts and opinions on this. Wonder what they were thinking ebay does remedy this by selling longer ones

I am not sure what Honda was thinking when they designed it this way. However, if you plan to use the Honda bed extender, it is designed to fit with an angle on the tailgate.

The eBay seller of the longer cables is a member here. I can't remember his handle, it's "Farmer" or very close to that.

Some people had said that Honda designed it that way so people would not sit on it and overload the plastic tailgate. I am not sure, just stating what others have said.

good info joey thanks. I thought maybe to keep logs or round wood from rolling out or something. sure do make it hard to sit on.

What is the tailgate capacity? I would think you would want it to be at least 300lbs.

I weigh 240lbs and I sit on my tailgate all the time...

I think they made it that way so when you did sit on it, it would be flat vs dumping you off.

mine is very comfortable to sit on... and now its fairly level... bonus!!

I did not change the cables. Mine never had a significant angle. It still has a slight angle, but when I sit on it, it feels perfect.

Add the extended cable to mine from Farmer. Lays flat, needed that for my homemade bed extender.
