Bought new pioneer 1000-5 couple months ago. I have about 70 miles on it. Not that I rod the heck out of it but have pushed speed up close to top end a couple times for short duration during breakin period. Engine runs great but my top end speed seems to have dropped about 10 mph from what it was initially. Dropped from around 65 down to 55. Anyone else experience this? Thanks

I’ve had mine up to 58 on gravel but never above that because she starts skating a little bit. It still had plenty left but I don’t remember what the rpms were.

mine lives at the top end of the rpm range so i can"t say it's normal, but no problems so far.i use manual way more than auto and it's always in sport when i do.mine thinks it's a talon.i've had mine up to close to 100kph and it was howling.

I think I’m going to start using manual, the auto mode seems like it’s always letting the engine lug in a higher gear than it should.

or it shifts when you least want it to.that's why i prefer sport,it holds the gear right close to max before shifting.

Ahhhh. Vikes79 might be on to it. The windshield and top are new addition to mine since I originally tried top end. Could be that is the difference...still cold here so running with it closed. These friggers do howl when you rap them up.

There was a pretty good difference when I added mine vs when it's off;)

My stock tires pioneer 1000-5 LE under idea surface conditions has hit 68 mph on the speedometer and 67 mph on the GPS (The rev limiter kicks in). With 4 people on board it hits the same stretch of road at 65 on the speedo ( the rev limiter has not kicked in). What is very impressive about this machine is the fuel mileage. On good gravel road, it gets in the low to mid 30 mpg (canadian gallon), 25 to 29 to the U.S. gallon. I should also note that it has a Honda solid roof and 1/2 windshield.

Another huge factor is tire size / weight / width. Are you running OEM tires, or oversize?

Ours will run 66 (69 gps tracked) with windshield/roof and couple people but do have a few upgrades. Don’t like running that sustained even when possible because it’s a bit sketchy, r’s are a bit high too. I’d run 60 sustained. Not sure weight makes much difference but windshield/roof will make a difference negatively, noticed that towing the machine even.
