P500 Trip to Nebraska National Forest near Halsey

Teaching my son in law how to drive a deeply rutted trail. We drove up and then down. Super steep... The guy with the ATV got stuck three times going up and we walked right up it with the P520.

I spent my summers as a kid at the Halsey 4-H Camp. Killed a big rattle snake that was sunning himself on the path to the lodge. Too many people around to let him go. Made a great workshop of skinning and salting the skin.

We have alot of sand in FL wondering if OEM tires will work well at Bessey? Have you had to use your traction board? Bessey looks like alot of fun.

Hi,

I no longer run the OEM tires. I swapped to 27x 11x14 Maxxis Bighorn 3.0 tires all the way around.

I took the traction boards but have never used them. The sand is fine powder, but low pressure and wide tires work really well. I thought I might need them if I got my Land Rover Defender stuck. I never even took it off road.

Your "trails in the trees" pic's look a lot like the trails I did in South Dakota, around Hill City in the Black Hills. Which would make sense with Nebraska sharing a boarder.

I agree, it looks a lot like the stuff in the Black Hills.

Hill city has got a pretty decent brewery on site. Stopped there a couple times. They also have a winery next-door, the wines are just OK.

I feel like the stuff at the Nebraska National Forest would be a good extra day tag on to the Black Hills trip I’m trying to get organized for 2023. It would be a great place to camp and you could spend all day riding trails. Then after we would pack up camp and drive out, the Black Hills aren’t that far away for the rest of the time we would be riding.

Now I just need to find a good loop in the hills that would last three or so days

Good memories! The area is pretty cool and I warned my wife about the possibility of rattle snakes in the area. She started looking up emergency vets in the area just in case one of the dogs got bitten.

I'll keep a running list of people interested in a trip like this. It's still a long way out and I have a lot of work to get organized for it, but it would be a fun triip.
