well we cut and rewelded the upper portal mounts to put them a little higher away from the boot. hard winching on someone else thats stuck pushed them right back down and finally cut my passenger side front boot. i dont know why they put them so close and didnt reinforce them more. but we are going to move them up and go from 1/4 inch steel to 1/2 inch on the top mount. and redo the tie rods to double tab and hime joints 65835bce1bc7ff949b451393a43f629c

It’s always something. ;) I’m really surprised that they didn’t reinforce them better.

yep but when i tear it down and build them right i shouldnt have to worry about them anymore. pulled a 4 seater ranger with blown front diff out took my bike and rzr 1k both winching. 4.5k and 5k winch and we were sliding to pull him out. kinda getting tired of messing with them. but they are so nice.

If you had it to do again would u bought the 6 inch over the 4
6 inch. and i would of modified the brackets at the beginning
its all 1/4 inch id double up the plate on the top and make the steering arm longer for less steering angle but easier turning. all and all i dont have power steering and i can turn no prob. but the 6 inch portals have a 2 inch off set. so a set of 32s on 6 inch would be a perfect setup for a 700. but my bike isnt a show pony. i run a 5k winch and marine full size battery and 4 ga wire . i pull people out and im hard on it. but bending a bracket winching someone out just holding the brakes is ridiculous. all in all if someone had a set of portals around me where i could look at the brackets i would of made my own and just bought the boxes. and rear brackets. iv had absolutely no problems from the rear units or the portals themselves.

the top furthest black metal is the steering arm
bent that too. on bad tire rod ends. i bent it going to swap to hime joints and beefier steering but run small bolt on hime joints for weak point. it has to have a weak point somewhere. rather a .20 cent bolt than a steering arm . Cf305f05a2aa36196af3b3b57d54ea77

on portals yes. 2wd on start up flooring it ill spin the back tires. i went with 32s and only ever had problems turning them in 4 lock in thick deep mud. like floorboard deep. if id known i could fit 14 inch rims on the 4 inch portals i would of went 30s in the mud 32s and portals feels like my executioners. 27s.x10,12s. on flat ground feels like im running 24s or 23s. up till about 30 mph. then the weight gears friction all come to show their heads

the real test though is the fuel economy difference the bike just moves easier. i probably burn 2-3 gals less per ride than what i did when i had 27s.

Dont know if these pics will help you. These are portals that are meant for a 700 that I put on my 500 a while back. It looks like they double stacked plate to make them about 3/4" where the balljoints go through. The backing plate that the portal box bolts to is 3/8" plate. I will actually be taking them off this weekend and going back to 30s with no portals. Ordered 31" Motohavocs for the wifes and when they come in Im taking the 30s off hers and putting them on mine. These are UTVsolutions 6" portals, which Im sure are different than yours, but maybe the pics will help being there is no one around you for you to look at their portals. If you need anymore pics or measurements let me know.

i havent done anything to the portals them selves except change the oil. on highway twice hit 45 on dash both times. about 38 gps. only thing iv had to work on is the portal brackets iv only tore the brackets down once in 6 rides. i change the oil in the portals after every water ride. 1 quart of lucas will do 2 full changes( all 4 portals). they have never gotten hot to the touch barely even warm after highway speeds.

im waiting to hear back from russ on his p1k shocks on 700. but right now i have 5 inch lift and 4 inch portals i cam run over a standing 5 gallon bucket at speed and never touch it. my whole thing is the stock shocks keep me from binding axles at full droop. because i 3 wheel alot. even with rear sway bar disconnected. i will say though double stacking relocator lift and spring spacer did make for a softer ride.
