I forgot I had this old radio (brand new, still in box, never used) out in my shop. It is a Vertex FTL 2011/99 according to the box, paper work does not show the '99'. Specs shows 40/5 watts, high/low, programable with freq. 134-160/148-174 MHz and Intermediate Frequencies of 21.4 MHz.

From what I have gathered on the forum, I think those fall within the frequencies being used here ...... right? I have no idea if this thing requires a computer to set it up or not. Anyone have any knowledge on that matter. It appears the only thing I need is an antenna, unless I need software.

That is a comericial VHF radio, most the frequency’s that we use are in the UHF band. FRS frequencies are around 462.5265 to 467.7125 MHz so unfortunately that radio can not transmit on that band.

I though I was reading an old thread earlier that showed the frequencies around 151?? Nearly positive of that. Has it changed in the past couple of years?

I have a shop full of the FRS radios used for hunting ....... not worth a crap in hills and woods, past shouting distance.

MURS uses frequencies around 154mhz. Majority of the riders are going to be using FRS/ GMRS - the difference in performance e is going to be in the radio and antenna.

Below is the post I referred to about the 151 frequencies. Evidently the group decided not to go that route?

These are the Freqs that CP sent.
These are legal for all that are not HAM licensed. Which is most of us. We usually pick a couple of frequencies when we get together out of these five. Real easy and quick to change as needed.

Yes those are MURS frequencies - Most people are not running those freq. I am not 100% sure what your rugged radios and like outfits are programming into their units but several other places that service the SXS community really promote and look to sell UHF only radio's. So you can run those if you want to but it is not going to be a popular choice and I would recommend having the Freq with you as most people will never invest the time to learn how to program their radio more than changing the pre programed channel.

As a disclaimer - you are only allowed to transmit up to 2watts on MURS and technically this has to be done on a device certified for use on MURS channels.

I just add the disclaimer for people reading - we are all big boys and able to make our own decisions
