I think I’m ready to jump on a P5, but before I do, what’s the best way to go with 26 or 27’s and stay within 50”? I’m thinking 26-9/12 or 27-9/12 all corners and use factory wheels. Will this work?

I went with Kenda Bearclaw HTRs in 26x9 fronts and 26x11 in rears keeping them on the stock wheels. I haven't measured but I'm probably at 51 inches. I don't run spacers. They are a true 26 and I haven't found the machine to be anymore tippy than before though I'm sure it is a little bit as it did raise the machine up 1 inch. You might be able to get away with 27s on stock wheels if they run small but thats probably about it without having to go with spacers.

The stock wheels are of different width so not sure how mounting up all 4 the same width would work for keeping the front and rear in the same track if that is important to you. Also, it seems like the narrower wheels in the front would balloon the tires up taller and they would be wider and shorter in the rear. Maybe this isn't the case if somebody has all ready done this. Just me thinking out loud.

5/2 offset rims made me about 54 wide, 27x9 F, 27x11 R.

My OE wheels and tires tracked 48" front and 50" rear
With 26X9R-12 tires and 12x7, 5+2 offset wheels on all 4 corners and NO spacers I am tracking 51.75" front and 51.0" rear.

"I’m thinking 26-9/12 or 27-9/12 all corners and use factory wheels."

You should have no width problems with either if you keep the original rims.

I put 27 inch Bighorn 2.0s on mine. Spacers did not arrive before my next ride after the new tires and I did not feel like the machine significantly more tippy. There is more body roll from taller sidewalls that smush down. Spacers do make it more stable but really only "necessary" for ripping around corners. For perspective, I still have my sway bar connected.

If you are using stock wheels you could add 1” spacers to the rear and still be 50”.

I have a new 2019 P500 and I am debating the same tire mod. I also want to stay in the 50" . I have never measured the trail posts but are they truly 50" or can you squeeze in with a little over?

I ran 26.5 actuals on stock wheels and it sucked! Added 1" spacers to all four and it was perfect. You'll squeeze through at 52". ;)

Something to think about, the wider Maxxis Bighorns have a very flat tread face.
This will have the effect of moving the tire contact patch out some.
I don’t know where the size break is, the stock p1k fronts are very rounded.
And I don’t trust the tire add pictures, they are apt to past any picture on line to sell you a tire.

I think @JACKAL has Bighorns on his p500, maybe he will chime in.

Also, 50” can have different meanings in different areas.
Some times the gates are wider, sometimes the rangers bust out a tape measure because they don’t like your attitude.
Don’t let you on line friends talk you in to a risk you don’t want to pay for.

I'm for staying 50" with stock wheels. I'm running true to size Kenda Bearclaw HTR's in 26" and stock wheels and the stability wasn't affected very much. I'm happy with it and I still go over the same side sloping trails I did before.

If I was you, go ride a trail that has some lateral slope to it with stock tires. Then go with the 26's and slap them on the stock wheels. Go ride that trail again. If it's acceptable to you then roll with it like I did. If not you can always add spacers to your liking.

I put 26x9 Roctane XD tires on the OEM wheels, have been running them 4 years now without issue. Haven't had any flat tires and handling has always seemed fine to me. Those tires get good all around traction but excel in rocks and durability.

This thread might help if you haven’t already seen it. P500 - Help me make my tire and size choice?

Mudder, read the link and very helpful in deciding which tires. I plan on 1/2 off road and 1/2 on. I see where street legal in AZ, DOT tires are not required but maybe a good idea for road travel and smoother ride. After looking at all the posts, I will go with Kenda Mastodon HT Radials 8 ply D.O.T approved, 26x9-12 all around with ITP Delta steel rims 12X7 5+2 Rims all four. Looks like this combination will cover my easy going riding style with tires and rims that will be better on the hard stuff and yet stable and a good ride off road.I will always have the OEM set to use as needed.
