Warn winch question

been emailing back and forth with Warn customer service. They seem to think there are supposed to be nut in the bottom as well....

So after speaking with Warn (they have been awesome so far), I was informed the style i have now is the new style and they dont use nuts in them. I was told not to leave it loose, that it needs to be tightened down. So I was asked to tighten down on it. If it strips the threads, they will send me a new motor (the side that stripped). My concern is that this is the second one that its happened at the same location. But ill see what happens tonight when i take their advice.

Actually that picture isn’t what mine looks like, just kidding. That one has the nuts in it.

Mine didn't have the rod either and I noticed in the Install instructions it said that it may not be there to remove.

Can you drill and tap, use a larger bolt?

People at warn said tighten it down and if it stripped they would send me another half

If you want to repair it yourself and keep the new one as a spare. I would recommend a timesert over helicoil to repair it. Any decent automotive machine shop in your area should be able to install one if you do not want the hassle of ordering a big kit.
No clue what thread it is, this is just a guesstimate.

Will probably do something along those lines and keep it as a spare.

Good guess on the pitch. Thats kinda pricey for one thread size, but i like that design better than helicoil.


Looking at the bolt after it came out, im thinking I can get a little longer bolt. I upped the size from what was supplied from 20mm to 25mm. Im thinking i can go 30mm and not bottom out in the winch.

Call around to local automotive machine shops, they might stock the time serts. could probably have both holes on that 1/2 done for under $20ish.
Some days I wonder why I don't go to McMaster first! Can you drill/tap to 1/2"-13?
I am SO ordering these to put in my trail kit.
