P1000 Weak Tailgate?

Well, my kid backed the pioneer into a tree and bent the pivot tubing. I'm trying to straighten it but my propane torch isn't getting it hot enough. Any ideas other than hotter gas (I don't have acetlyene)

I’d get a new one...haven’t looked but they shouldn’t be that much.

No idea on specs and if you want 800lb capacity I would bet more than the gate needs to be upgraded. The cables and how they attached would have to be beefed up as well, IMO

Yeah, that was my point, but from what it looked like at the link it comes with beefier cables. It’s the cable mounting point that makes me leary of the 800# rating.

But I don’t need 800#, just curious of the gauge on the metal. I’ll contact them.

I got it. I found a horseshoe stake that was just the right diameter to barely fit in the hole. Smashed it with a sledge hammer till it went down past the bend, then heat it and beat it. Not perfectly straight but hopefully good enough.

Edit: read and that is upgraded cables at 400lbs each for combined 800lb rating. My bad

“Good morning. The skin of the tailgate is 14g. The inner skeleton is 1 in box tubing with a lot of cross bracing. It’s very stout. Comes with 400lb capacity cables for a total capacity of 800 lbs on the cables.”

FWIW, I’d still never put 800# on it obviously.

Cool thanks for the follow up and I’m with you. I’m sure the gate itself can handle the weight but 800lbs is a lot of damn weight for surrounding components. Good to have stout option though

It's funny this came up.... I was planning on revisiting this project in the next few weeks once my shop is done. Mine were for the 700 and I'm sure I could do the same thing for the 1000. I'd just need a willing owner in my area to model his 1000. Couldn't sell any at $275. I'm guessing it was due to my self admitted warped plastic issues. My goal is to use aluminum this time or nail down the plastic warping issues. I still have one boxed up and ready to go. LOL.
