I believe that is the honda (official) ground connection.Just got this... Wiring my winch in and I see this wire. Anyone know what it's for? It was taped together with blue tape... It's key hot but not 12v I'm only getting 9 and change from it....View attachment 182186
It’s your factory sourced ground.No it's not a ground, it's key hot...

Hmm. It was over a year ago for my install. So apologies. No it's not a ground, it's key hot...
Sorry and call me stupid but why does a ground have power?
Because on an Atv/Utv the ground completes the circuit. It’s DC not AC, if you had current on an AC ground it would be a problem. If you start your pioneer and check it, I would bet the reading would jump to 12.4+Sorry and call me stupid but why does a ground have power?

I would think it should, I’m not sure how he’s getting that reading though.Wouldn’t a check from ground to ground still read 0? As in from battery ground to the wire in question?

Me neither and I hope I’m not completely wrong. The way I understand it is it’s just a big loop.10/4, I would think it would confirm ground.
<———not an electrician, lol

Indeed we are lol.It should only be hot if his other lead is to something hot, that actually would prove the ground to be good. I think we are saying the same thing just in reverse.
Hummm... I will have to check mine to see what it reads. No it's not a ground, it's key hot...
It is a factory ground on the 2017 and newer 1000's. Mine is an LE and it looked identical to that, right down to the blue tape. It is attached to my 2nd battery and isolater now.No it's not a ground, it's key hot...
I connected mine to my fuse block but I’ve been thinking about going directly to the winch. It is a factory ground on the 2017 and newer 1000's. Mine is an LE and it looked identical to that, right down to the blue tape. It is attached to my 2nd battery and isolater now.
