P500 Why all the rust?

I've been looking at used P5's this summer and I notice they all have rust and rot. It's not just minor surface rust either, it's rot as well. My friends all have older Polaris and Yamaha ATVs and they aren't covered in rust and the Polaris Ranger and RZRs aren't either. Still not buying a Polaris though.

I bought my P5 the month that Honda rolled them out. I’ve been through the creeks and mud plenty and it has no rust on it.

I am in my 3rd year with mine, and you would have to really look hard to find any rust, and no rot. I will say that I try to avoid mud when I can, and wash it off as soon as possible. When you ride em hard and put them up wet and muddy a lot, I would think just about any make or model would deteriorate. Could be that you are looking at some that never had a bath, untill they were ready to sell it.

I've honestly never owned a Honda ATV/SxS that didn't develop rusty joints and drips. Never any major rust, though.

I saw where the new Wolverine X2 frame has some sort of anti corrosion dip. Maybe Honda should follow that lead and worry about electronic nannies later?

I didn't take any pictures of the rust/rot. It was raining outside and I was soaked, cold, and not happy I drove that far to look at it.

Haha, it was early in the morning and raining. I was soaked and it was 65, it feel cold to me. We don't get cold days in July.

I have rust all over mine, even have paint peeling off where the frame was "slightly' bruised by rocks and stuff. scratches don't take long to rust. Mud and climate does it I think. Not much I can do about it...

I wash mine after every ride, unless it was a dry ride I sometimes cheat and put it up dirty. I keep a can of gloss black spray paint handy and regularly hit places that have had the paint knocked off.

I think what @SILVER_ALERT said is likely the case with the one that you looked at.

maybe they are trying to be like jeep wranglers, I've seen those brand new rusting at the dealerships.
