Short notice, I know, but I will be riding Windrock and Sundquist this weekend. I will likely ride a few hours Friday evening, Saturday all day, and a few hours Sunday AM.

My plan is not a lot of "fun" trails since this is the first of two scouting / route planning trips for me for a Land Cruiser group ride I am leading in late Sept.

That said, would love to ride with a few others if anyone is interested.

Looking at the forecast, I believe I will pack some rain gear!

Darn...
3 days ago I would have said Ya. But already made other arrangements.

How many trucks will you be leading?

This weekend, looks like me, myself, and I. In Sept. we are up to fifteen 70 series Land Cruisers: 73, 74, 75, and 77s - none of which Toyota ever imported or sold in the USA

Nice.
15 should be easy to handle.

I'll be over on the new river unit exploring Friday and sat.

We may cross paths then as I want to look at a few places on The New River unit. I will be looking for trails on the easy side of things since most of these trucks are so rare the owners don't want to push them too hard.

I wish mine was not as nice as it is body and paint wise as it is set up for harder stuff that I'm willing to take it on. Lifted, larger tires, lockers in both axles, PTO winch.

Took the group on 11 last year and the Rocky bits were more than most wanted to attempt.

Three pics of this afternoon's riding (with one being taken from inside the rig)

North side of Little Fodderstock on WindRock where trail 42 signage changes to difficult

Overlook on Fork Mountain (I believe) northwest of then old open pit coal mine across 116 from the cleaning plant at Moore's Camp / Deltonia - on WMA

Further up Fork Mountain as I was coming back down from the NE corner of Frozen Head State Park .... second Turkey I flushed in roughly the same spot. The bird refused to fly.

Just off the mountain. Put a hair over 90 miles on the P1000 today. Did not see another soul once I left the trailhead until close to 5:30 on Trail 2 - passed a Range Rover with two yuppies from Gwinnett county Ga!

Will post more pics later, but these made my whole day @elkguide I think you will appreciate this

I jumped a calf elk out of its bed. It was maybe 6 feet from me and I couldn't get the camera out fast enough.

The bed (taken from the P1000)

The bed with the trail so you can see how doggone close I was - the bed is in the center of the pic right above the rock on the edge of the trail

Another 35 yards and I saw momma

I cannot describe how happy it makes me that these critters are coming back so well in my home state.

The omen for a great evening was the bobcat that ran across P1 on my way to the parking lot to get more fuel at about 5. I gotta get me a Garmin camera to capture this stuff. It's been at least a decade since I've seen a bobcat in the wild ....

I promised a few more pictures and more info, but things have been insane at work so far this week. Combine 10 hour days with a three hour round trip commute each day and I am wiped ...

So this will be pic heavy and word light. Will try to follow up later this week.

I put 94.6 miles on the rig on Saturday leaving the trailhead at 10 and getting back about 6:30. Subtrans was much quieter when it actually had oil in it.

A few observations ...
1). If I am gonna run a utility machine as hard as I was (and the chassis as a whole seems up to it) I am gonna need upgraded front springs and shocks.
2). Skid plates are on the shortlist, as is a cooling fan under the seat.
3). I have some adjusting to do on the bed ... it RATTLES!
4). Reasonably impressed with the grip of the Bighorns, but bigger meats are on the wishlist ... just hope I can hold off until I wear them out.

The only vehicle I drive that puts a bigger excrement eating grin on my face is my RHD BJ74 Land Cruiser ....

Now for pics ... words will follow ... but proof it did happen
