P1000m5 Windshield

I have a two piece poly windshield and live on a dirt road. We also do some mudding. After a year of dust and mud it was very difficult to see through. Started the process of doing a three step polish. Here are some pics. Will post more of the finished product. Let me know what you think or what you use to keep it as scratch free as possible.

One trick I used to do with boat windshield that were hard to through was to use pledge furniture polish. It only lasts for 3 or 4 weeks but it was a quick fix when needed.

I've done headlights with the 3M kit...I bet it'd work on windshields...

This is what I am using. I hope to finish up this weekend. Starting to get a little to cold to ride without it.

What did you use to polish the plastic?
Drill? Da? Flex polisher etc?

FWIW, I recommend using the same method that you would for finishing a clear coat paint job.

It’s essentially what the 3m head light kit is.

Start with 800 grit auto sand paper and work your way towards 5000 grit.

I prefer to wet sand even with the 800 as it keeps the surface cool and helps to keep the sand paper from clogging up. A da sander, drill etc can be used. Don’t get wild with the speed or pressure.

Once you get to 5000 grit the surface should be pretty darn clear. Hit it with rubbing compound and a buffer and it will be clear as glass again.

At this point you can reapply plastic protection or hit it with pledge.
