Did a little digging. Found these part numbers are different on the 17's:

Meter (the speedo) - 37200-HL5-305
Switch (at/mt) - 35300-HL3-611
Wire harness - 32100-HL5-A40
Computer - 38770-HL5-A42

Those parts alone will cost you $400 plus... And it would take quite a bit of work since the entire wiring harness is different.

There are several different parts internal to the transmission. Main shaft, gears, etc. I wouldn't think you would necessarily have to update those parts to get auto mode to work - but this is new territory so what do I know.

So who's willing to be the guinea pig ???

If new harness and computer, I think that means you get the new safety features too. From my standpoint, doesn't seem worth it. Sell or Trade in, and get the new model. No piggy here. ;)

I would love to have the auto setup for my kids but I would trade mine in prior to trying this one... By the time to rip open the internals and find the mess of components that you would have to replace you would have a quarter of the price of a new P5.

To me, the seatbelt thing is not an issue. I use the seatbelt all the time to prevent hitting my head on the roll bar when I'm riding.

I agree, it may not be a cost effective route to retrofit the new parts versus trading up to a 17. I'm just putting some of the info out there.

If i knew for a fact that $400 - $500 and a day's labor was all that's needed to make it work, I'd probably go for it. I've already added a bunch of mods/accessories to my P5 so trading it in would be a pain.

Me too, it was just meant that there was other H/W needed to be compatible with a harness and computer change. Other sensors?

I noticed the part number for the frame is different also. Not sure if it's just some minor improvement, or something significant.
Maybe it's just that bar on the side that they changed. Can't think what it's called but it's there to keep you from falling out.

Auto shift..... Phffff... Gimmick comes to mind. More appropriate would have been E-steering and better suspension with locker. I mean it is hard to stretch your fingers and click the paddles, you want auto buy a belt machine.
