Good morning, I am looking to get a SxS for this fall and am seriously looking at a few options. For obvious reasons, like seating capacity and non cvt drive system, the pk1-5 is on the list.

Being the first year of production and with the known issues (heat, water ingestion, and transmission shifting/clutch issues), should I think twice about buying a 2016?

This will be my first side by side. Planning to use for light trail riding and planting a very small food plot, for deer hunting.

Thanks.

They are a great machine. If the updates haven't been done just take it to a dealer. What's the price on the one you're looking at?

Asking $13,500. 941 miles. I haven’t reached out to the sellers yet, but it looks like a sharp rig.

If all of the updates have been done, it's a great machine. I'm happy with my '16 P1000-3.
$13,500 does sound high to me though.

Yay. Don’t worry about the problems the 16 had. All the updates take care of everything and puts it on par with newer models. It’s now what it should’ve been

Thanks for the insight. If they’ve have the recall repairs done, I can check the records and personally inspect everything, except the clutch.

What is the best way to check for previous “water ingestion”? From what I’ve read, that problem does not occur from water entering thru the air intake. Something about the vent lines being inside the frame rails...

Also, if the price is too high, what do you think is fair. If the bike checks out, of course.

Here is what a new 1 would cost at southern honda in Chattanooga. It's not that far from u. The 2016 does have the honda roof(550), split windshield (super atv cost 450), rear view mirror(70) side mirrors I'm not sure what they cost.

Price is high for my area. Me and my buddy both have 16’s and love them. I think around here it would be 11-12k

I just picked up a 2016 P1k5 Deluxe with 340 miles at a dealership for just under 12k if that helps. It already had a winch, light bar, rock lights, LED whips, bluetooth stereo, hard top roof, split windshield and battery tender.

I drove it out at my place for the first time today and, even though the salesman stated all the updates were done, I don't think they were. There was an awful lot of heat coming up through the front seat and it doesn't look like the air intake was upgraded.

I'm hoping I can find a thread here with a comprehensive list of the updates and how to check for them.

There are only a few that I know of for a 2016: Water ingestion fix, clutch cover, cab heat "fix", exhaust cover, throttle pedal.

If you have what appears to be an open cell foam square sitting under your hood, you probably don't have the water ingestion fix. Here is the thread related to that one:

Pioneer water ingestion fix

Pop your seat up, if you have what looks like a 1mm thick floppy piece of rubber under there, you have the "heat fix". It does basically nothing.

The throttle pedal I'm not sure of a way to tell without running the VIN to see if it was done. I'm also not familiar with the recalls for the exhaust covers so I can't help there to tell you what it looks like.

You should be able to have your local dealer run the VIN and tell you what has been completed and what hasn't. If you search on the forum for the specific recall you may be able to find more info than what I've spouted off here from the top of my head.
