On the most recent update from Honda, they hint with the following announcement timeline for the 2019 season. Along with motorcycles and ATV dates, the timeline includes 2 dates for Side by Side models.

JULY will be the 2019 Pioneer model announcement.
We only expect basic updates to the current line. But it would be nice to see the 700/500 with i-4WD or a 500 power steering model. We do know there will be continued safety updates as we have seen year after year to comply with safety regulations.

NOVEMBER will be the highlight event.
Here Honda plans to announce a new "SXS" model. Will be the so-called "Talon"? It is not clear, but too many patents, rumors, and not to forget the new wing at the HSC plant that has started its first run of pre-production models. We expect this new sport to have an upgrade 1000 drivetrain ramping up the HP. Yet, keep in mind this is Honda. They will keep it to a nice conservative level for sure!

Here are a few patents released to HondaSxS.com.
Future - Rumor - First Look - Honda's new 5 link rear suspension!
Future - Who's ready for the 2018 HONDA TALON SPORT SxS?
Future - Vehicle frame assembly - Patents [HASHTAG]#9663145[/HASHTAG] - Honda Sport???

We will continue to post any information as we find it.

Actually, I really doubt they are going to make a sport that will compete with the turbos. They may have something in the class of your 900's though.
IMO It’ll basically be a yxz1000 with a bunch of electronic features added. Turbo version to come out within a couple years. Honda will have to add turbo to compete in the market.

I think you’ll be greatly disappointed in this new so called “ sport model”. They already conceded the market. It’ll be a too little too late kinda product coming out. Hope I’m wrong, so you’re not to disappointed!

I would disagree. Look at the concentration of Honda Pioneer owners in the south east US. 170HP turbo isn't needed for this market. Now if the market was only Glamis in Commiefornia then yes I would agree.

A great handling and comfortable riding chassis with a naturally aspirated 100 ish HP powerplant will work great and reliable and keep it somewhat affordable so it can appeal to the masses. I mean if you can buy a Honda for 30% less and does 90% of the newest whiz bang electroshock turbo held together by a rubber band RZR they will appeal to a good sized segment of the market. If you can get them under $20K vs. $28 for the top tier turbo units they will sell and be more reliable with less heat. You think a P1K gets hot double the HP with a turbo, that something you dont need on the trail with 15 mph avg stop n go riding.

I do strongly suspect there will be an optional turbo kit for the 10% that think it will make a difference to them ( sand & desert riders) plus this could put it able to play in the off road races ie Baja.

I don't need a turbo model.I just need something sporty'UR then my lifted up Tanklike golf cart. With suspension to handle 60 mph, and a tranny to climb quick steep hills and low gear to crawl washed out rocky trails.Bucket seats and a cool ass look about it.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d still consider buying one (once it’s been out awhile to eliminate issues) as I’m not the percentage that would have a “need” for the extra power. The Wolverine goes anywhere a 1000 goes plus some on 1/2 the power, in the woods isn’t a place where power is needed, but Honda still has to overcome the dealer pushing Polaris to grab a much larger percent of the market. All the dealer needs to say is it’s only got 2/3 the power to “most” new potential owners to spoil a sale. I see it every time I go to the multi brand dealer. It needs lots of bright stickers and massive power. Look at the Yamaha yxz, people walk right past it being escorted by the pos salesman. They will sell because it’s Honda for some like us but to take over the market it’ll need a turbo Billy bad ass brother.

No doubt, in GENERAL Honda moves slowly, but make no mistake ...... IF the decide to make any type of model to take over the lead as the BEST, they can and will do it.

I started riding dirt bikes in '67, first one was a converted Honda SL90 Scrambler. All the top bikes were European and secondary were Yamaha, Suzuki, and Kawasaki. By 1970 rumors flew of Honda entering the market ...... nothing. IIRC it was '73 when Honda came out with the famous CR250 Elsinore and it was a beauty! I owned the very first one in the SE United States, since all the imports to the SE enter via GN Gonzales in Baton Rouge, and I had a 'hook'. It blew all the other Jap models away and was as good or better than any from Europe. It was more like a 'works' bike than a factory bike. Will Honda do the same with sport SXS, I do know, but I know they CAN!

I hope we see a improved Pioneer 700 with 50 hp and a 4 speed. Honda needs an extended wheelbase with two large seats in the back. The RZR 1000 does nearly everything good and its the best seller due to price and performance. The air intake still sucks the dust off the front wheels and the drive shaft still sucks. I believe the Honda 1000cc engine was designed for the Pioneer and the sport model. I doubt it will have 100 hp but close and enough to be fun for everyone except the racers and dune guys. Honda will need the 1000cc flat four for high hp and also a version built for high boost and twin turbos. The sand and race guys will just love over 200 hp but its a limited market and the cost will be high. I expect it in 5 to 10 years. Honda stated they want to be number 1 in side by side sales a few years ago. Honda will need a few more Pioneer models and at least 6 Sport models. Four seat models sell well in the South West. Honda built two 2003 Rincons to race the Baja 1000 and finished 1st and 3rd. The used a custom 11 gallon fuel tank, up the final drive gearing for a top speed of around 80, use a high compression piston and race gas. They also removed all the front drive parts to save weight and off set the fuel load.

How about before we start adding I-4wd and other s*** like that to the 500, we give the thing a locker and a bed like the other sxs's out there? Seems like a logical way to go?
Add a low range to the 700 and it's over anyway. You can have your 1000.
I'm not really in the market for a pure sport machine...

DG a 4 speed or 5 speed 750 with 50 hp would make a huge improvement to the 700 especially the 4 seat model at high elevation. Honda needs a low cost 750 Sport model too. I made a light weight aluminum bed for my 500 and yes a locker would be nice. I run 30's on my 700 for rock crawling and its got to be a huge step to need a lower gear. I do want a much lower gear and a higher gear too. The close ratio would make the shifts smoother. The next 10 years will be interesting. Honda is slow to come out with new models and Yamaha and Kawasaki too. Looks like Suzuki dealers are getting a huge hit too. All my rich buddies are buying the Maverick Turbo and Cam-Am sales are way up now too.

Oh yeah...if they add more power to the 700 I'm all for it. I really want them to keep the current style of tranny, though. No DCT.
I was just saying that a low range would be a huge boost. If they do more, all the better.

Just bring us a nice basic sport to start of with. I don't need or want a turbo. I want something small, nimble and reliable. Hell I'd be happy with something the size of the 500 with good suspensions, front locker, bucket seats, and a lower sportier setup. 700 drivetrain with a low range.
I don't want anything like the Polaris 1000 or long ass 4 seaters, might as well stuck with the Jeep as big as some of these are. Even the P1000 bigger than I want. I guess that is why I love my 500, great for slow technical crawling, just need more suspension to cushion my old body.

Lower (Please please please tell me you don't mean less ground clearance) and with more suspension? How do you propose they do that?

My sport quads (not that Honda even makes one anymore) don't really have much suspension travel either in reality, but standing up and using the legs as part of the suspension is a big part of that game. Can't really do that in a SxS. Not to mention the extra weight of a SxS and the added passenger/cargo weight on top of that and it is easy to see where the stiffer suspension required for that extra weight as well as the spine versus the legs taking the extra compression is a trade off. I had a Jeep and did a lot of wheeling a decade or so ago. It was a slow ride, the guys that tried to hammer down bounced all over the place and broke axles like mad. The SxS's are a big cross over between ATV's and Jeeps. I bought the Pioneer 500 so my wife could go riding with me. Sharing my off road passion and seeing her catch the bug it has been very worth it.

We all know life is full of compromise. Heck I'd love to buy the new CRF450L that is coming out, but with a +/- 31" inseam I'm not rocking a 37.1" seat height ever. I get on a minimal center ridge at a light on my Ninja 650R at a 31.1" seat height and I'm on tip toes. lol.

Honda will release something that is a compromise at a price point. We will buy it and modify it to suit our individual needs/wants/desires. They know it. We know it. That said I'm excited to see what they do put out for us.

Lower as in sit more down in with bucket seats and legs out in front more. Whereas the utility models you sit more upright with legs more below. Like other sport models, you sit more down in the machine instead of on top of machine like a utility model.

Def need more ground clearance than the 500, smacked plenty of rocks on the bottom of it. Front frame is looking rough and trashed stock skid.

I chose the 500 because of price to get wheels under me until a sportier model comes out. I just couldn't bring myself to go with any of the belt drive models, had enough of burnt belts riding with buddies in rzr. I'm attached to the 500 now, not sure that I can part with it, just have to add to the stable!

Honda takes the conservative approach to anything and everything they make. They have never offered anything flashy or with bright decals. Adding a limited edition is a HUGE thing for Honda and about the last mfg to do so. Honda makes very few if any changes to every model they have. The utility atv lineup is proof of that as well as most of the sport market.
