I'm thinking of investing a second battery for backup systems like my winch. I tipped the P5 on its side in Washington state near the Shoe Tree last year and I have since purchased a quality come along but, I was thinking since when you tip your machine, that you're supposed to shut off the engine which I did at first. After getting myself the dog and everything else out, I still had no way to flip it upright. What I ended up doing was pulling out my winch line running it back through the passengers arm /shoulder bar and up to a tree. then I turned the P5 back on and winched it into a more positive angle before the engine shut off from oil flooding the air intake. At that point I was able to flip it the rest of the way. I obviously couldn't run the winch without starting the machine so, I'm thinking about installing a secondary battery for emergency issues in the future when I'll need to utilize the winch. Any Thoughts?

Totally makes sense. I’ve had a second battery for some time now primarily for snow ploughing and it works good. Pending your needs I’d try to get a large capacity deep cycle, install under driver’s seat as there’s lots of room there. Underseat is where I’d put mine (now under hood in steel ammo can) if I did it again. I hooked all my auxiliary stuff to second battery and used a mini battery isolator system. Should have pix in my link below. Lastly if you can afford an AGM deep cycle the’re awesome as they can’t spill or leak, pack good power and should last.

For winching I’ve stored 4 snatch blocks, 100ft of quality rope, 50ft of synthetic winch line, with the 50 synthetic on the drum. Also straps for snatch locks, small shovel and brush hook (axe). So glad I had this gear earlier this winter used it all to get out of a bad bind.... stuck in snow in a mud hole and had to winch 180 degrees. In the black dark, snowing 2” and hour, by myself. Thankful for the gear, second battery and VisionX LED lights, (low draw amps but big brightness).
Cheers,
j

I have a second battery for my radio and light bars and winch. It’s in a ammo box and I have a dash mount charging plug on one side and a marine cut off switch on the other side. It’s not a deep cycle(wish I would have thought about that) but it works great. I leave my Honda battery for cranking. Works great

Second the AGM type, read they hold charge better for infrequent use.

Could you please take a picture of inside on the box? I would like to see how it's wired.
