Is gl-5 the spec to look for when changing gear oil. Planning to try

Valvoline High Performance SAE 80W-90 Gear Oil 1 QT

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001OV61KW?tag=sxsweb24-20

This is a hypoid gear oil. Getting ready to service my machine for the first time, new to me 2017 1000-5. Went to dealer for Oil and filters and forgot the gear oil.

Will consider synthetic the next time I change it.

Thanks in advance

Don't do it! I tried and the shifting was near impossible and the grinding made me flush and reservice with the correct oil. Scared the hell out of me. Tolerances must be tight or gears have to be right against each other, so get correct oil.

You must be thinking he means the sub trans? 🤣 That would suck!
I think and hope he means the rear diff?

If u mean the rear diff your changing? yes that will work. Some unsolicited advise, just a few bucks more and get the Synthetic valvaoine Then u wont have to change it for a very long time and it will be quieter. I did this back in 17 on my 16 and its still a.o.k

Might need to find a picture of the Honda shaft drive oil and see if you can read the specs on it.
