Seen a lot of new 520 owners joining the forum lately. ( Welcome to each and every one them! )Made me curious.. Are there any new 500 owners? Is the 500 going to be a thing of the past?

I think the P500 will fade out. The P520 has just that bit more utility built in, and some additional mechanical refinement, that little extra money makes it worth your while. However, I still think Honda has to step up their game with a locking diff, and better in-dash storage. The Polaris 570SP is pretty good, and likely better if not for its CVT.

I really hope they do not phase out the P500, the versatility of the rear rack is amazing. Not everyone needs the dump bed, that is evident by those who have completed some pretty creative mods to the rear rack. I do agree with stepping up the game to add the diff and storage. I can't see that it would be too difficult to run a production line with both options.

Not getting rid of my p5 any time soon.
Me either! I love this thang.
I love the flexibility of the P500.

What folks do with the back rack section of the P5 has been a large part of my enjoyment of this forum.
Completely agree! I love looking at all the creative solutions that have been posted here for the rear rack.

Seems like a dump bed that easily bolts on/off on the P500 rear rack would be a popular item given the number of P500s sold. If Yamaha can do it for golf carts, Honda or aftermarket companies could do it for the rack. The versatility of the flat rack is ideal for DIY mods attachment. But guess there is more Honda profit with a new model vs accessories.

Definitely depends on your planned usage. Plenty of creative ways to use the racks. But if youre like me, I try to be creative and cant think of anything.

I tend to agree and believe the 520 will continue to climb in popularity, especially given the factory bed option, a very nice feature. I have own various Polaris products and without question, there are some nice features, but I personally keep circling back to Honda.

I plan on buying a new p500 next weekend. I put $100 down to hold it. I see this being the perfect machine for me. Mainly scooting around down, occasional trips to nearby ohv park, and romping through snow in the winter. I can't justify the extra money for the p520, so I'm glad this is still an option. What sold me on the p500 over all the competition is Honda durability, size, price, and gearbox instead of cvt.

I see on the Honda Powersports Canada website that the Pioneer 500 is no longer listed as a side by side product listing. 😞

Not only the cvt,but stuff like A-arm bushings ,electrical parts and one-way bearings for the front drive do not blow my skirt up...

So at 80 decided the Montana mountains were getting to high for me to climb for elk this year. Friends convinced me to opt for a utv. Settled on a 2017 P500 and am enjoying taking it out around Helena. Here's a pic of some billy (mountain) goats we encountered yesterday as we headed up-country. Never saw so many together at one time or so low down.

I believe the P500 will be phased out mainly due to emissions regulations, which forced a minor engine redesign resulting in the P520.

Interesting deduction. Probably a significant factor. And why have 2 model sxs with almost same displacement?
