I happen to like WARN winches too but the Warn Pro-Vantage 4500-S runs in the neighborhood of $652 online while the Superwinch Terra 4500-SR runs about $290Mines a warn....

Both have similar specs all metal gearing etc., and both have LIFETIME warranties so why pay more than double for a product that does not provide double the performance or warranty.
I agree. I had a Yamaha Big Bear back in the day that came with a Warn. It seemed that it did not like mud or water, though it was suposibly designed to withstand these elements. I remember the feeling of getting the new yamaha and a warn in the same day wow was I excited! The big bear was full time 4wd and was like arm wrestling when i rode it and the Warn crapped out within 6 months. Since then I have had a Polaris Ranger, JD Gator 825i, Pioneer 700-4, and now a Pioneer 1000-5 all with terra 45's. This winch has not let me down and i use it regularly. And i mean USE it. I have winched myself out, hogs and deer up into trees, other sxs, just recently winched out my neighbors ford 4000 tractor with it. To me its a reliable product. Good luck!I personally quite buying warn winches 15+ yrs ago when they quit using metal gears and went to plastic gears. On a atv they wouldn't last cause they were always under water and or covered in mud. Other winches are better built IMO than warn these days so to each their own.

Warn provantage 4500 is advertised as "sealed" and the superwinch is not advertised as such (so far as I could tell). Makes a big difference. I've had 2 warn 3000 winches on four-wheelers for about 12+ years and no problems even though used regularly. These were also advertised as sealed and one has seen about as much time under water as above. The warn 4500 is also touted as made in USA - and that still means something to me. Some warn models have had plastic drum housings that could strip out, but if you go with the all metal units that isn't a problem that I have seen.

I guess I don't read good. Haha
But the drivetrain is not claimed to be sealed whereas it is on the warn. Mud, water, grit in the gears and housing has to hurt longevity. One has to only look on the website specifications

Can't complain at a hundred bucks!!I'm running a smitty bilt xrc4.0. I think I paid $99 for it around Christmas time on special. I've already used it to pull the 1000 out and it did very well.

Agreed. They sent me the one with synthetic rope also. I called to let them know and they said don't worry about it and just keep it. Happy customer. Can't complain at a hundred bucks!!
I really like synthetic rope. It is WAY lighter than steel, does not store energy like steel (if it breaks it just falls harmlessly to the ground, no slingshot effect back at your face), and has a higher break strength than steel. You definitely have to baby it more than steel I will admit, but that's what the sleeves are for. One other thing, if you do happen to break it, you can tie it back together and keep winching, can't do that with steel! Obviously tying it isn't a permanent fix but it could mean the difference between walking home or driving home. How do you like the synthetic rope? I know a few run it but it seems to me that it would fray if you used it across ground or at a severe angle. I've snapped steel many times and have always been A little sketched about it. Does it work well for you?
