Also I received the planned colors for the pickup but just not happy with it. Cant do it. Talked with the wife and daughter and both want the white/grey. I didn’t realize at the time but selling my ‘92 to “upgrade” to the newer body style ‘98. Got greedy.
My daughter was driving the ‘92 around the campground from about 7 on, awesome memories, best truck I’ve ever owned, going back to that! Miss ya ok girl. Wife and daughter super happy!
The new truck will be a bigger better tougher 4-door manual version of this old truck. Final decision on colors (however grey will be a bit darker) Posted few of these before but new one will be a tribute!!

Well this project is still underway. Been hoarding cash and trying to come up with everything, once actually working it’ll go much faster but it is my dream truck so I’d rather things right. Decided I didn’t want cut frame. We run bed loaded down bad dirt roads.
However dodge didn’t make anything but a 2wd 1-ton 4-door longbed. That frame is a brute. Currently in talks for this one as a base for the Cummins. Lot has to go right so fingers crossed. Its 350 miles away but getting hard to find

Well she showed up today. Wife called me when the wrecker dropped it off and said “it’s the ugliest sonob**** I’ve ever seen” sentiments that I’ve heard before. I don’t look at everything for what it is, I see it for what it will be. Can’t say built not bought isn’t my entire life lol.
Even though I basically bought her for the heavy duty full frame it looks like it’s a great candidate to restore. Still gotta look at the cab mounts and structural integrity but it is pretty straight For a 38yo pickup, even the inside of the box and wheel wells.
It’s a 2wd automatic gasser so still gotta lot of work to do. It’s been rattle canned black inside and out by some crack head and the full interior, wiring, running gear and creature comforts needs to be updated to a decade newer pickup. Even as crude as that’ll be its miles ahead of 1982. Mileage, power, dependability and power will all double to triple.
Couldn’t be happier if someone gave me a new truck, this is what I want!
Right smack dab in the middle of camp season that I won’t make family give up and still gotta do lots of side work for build cash but this gives a foundation so work starts shortly. I guess this is the official beginning

Well this’ll teach my ol lady for leaving me home unattended. Lmao.
Two new fenders and two new doors. Premium condition factory grill a very nice condition tailgate (right colors even) and new under hood mat all coming. Hard to find good used stuff From what was used as a farm rig. Even though I have pretty good doors and fenders I decided on new.
Some of that side work I’ve been busy with now paying for some extremely good stuff. s***ty not being able to work on the truck because of that work thing and the 30 hours of side work alone since Friday but paying for things is still working towards the goal.

This weekend I am taking off from everything else and starting in on the cab!:):):) that’s the most unique part of this Cummins build so I wanted to start there for some inspiration.

Put up a shelter to work in. Supposed to be hot for awhile and I don’t exactly have that a/c garage at home so this’ll have to do for a bit. Need shade and a place rain won’t f*** things up. Have a small side project tomorrow morning but able to get a start on this tomorrow.
For the first time in awhile I’m focused and excited. I need something other then work in my life to run normal, been awhile. Maybe my busy mind will be able to rest at night finally.

Stripped all the seam sealer from the entire cab. Damn drip rail around the cab is like 25ft. Sucked it took forever. Did most of the rest of the bodywork. Ground down any rust and hit it with rust converter, actually wasn’t too bad. It was all surface rust other then just a couple spots I’ll weld in tomorrow. Gotta wash the converter off in the morning, best to let sit 24hrs but I scuffed it while wet so that helps speed things up

Pressure washing the rust converter off this morning. I always use a scuff pad as well to make sure all residue is off, that stuff will mess with paint and sealer.
As I’m doing that my wife is destroying the front of the donor truck. Gotta start tearing it fully apart. All that will be left is frame and box, however box needs to come off for the Por15 that will be applied to the frame.
Wish had a garage today, the f***ing murder hornets are out in full force this morning. Lol

The horse flies will tear your ass up here if you sweat, which is pretty likely with our humidity and a low temp of 75 at daylight. That is going to be a sweet ride!

Humidity isn’t what you have but today was 92 and much hotter in that tent. And I was chasing away bees all day. I can’t underestimate how many bees there were. It was a miserable day tbh.
I found two mouse nests in the upper cab that had rusted because of the urine. Cut those sections out, treated and welded in good metal, also being a usfs rig it had a hole through both inner and outer sheet metal over rear section of roof so welded that in. Ground down and used a fiberglass type of bondo that is water resistant. Most of exterior bodywork is done and a little sand and primer interior will be ready as well. Sucks to have to do this much body and paint to the inside of the cab, it’s a big damn cab.
Also drilled a few holes on inside roof panel and used some spray foam to quiet up the outside roof panel and stiffen it up.
Had planned on paint but between the heat the f***ing bees and extra metal fab it didn’t make it.

Cab made paint.
Used Por15 in drip rails and any spot that had rust after it was removed. All seam sealed up (better job the Dodge did lol) and then squirt with factory Dodge PW7 bright white.
My little home compressor struggled a little and still dealing with bees, plus they are attracted to the paint fumes. It’s been triple digits for temps here so waited till today but it was still pretty hot. Forgot how much I hate spraying the inside of things, especially a four door, but she’s painted

Seam sealed the underside and cleaned up the patch panels. Undercoated the whole floor pan heavily to help protect from future rust and to quiet down the road noise as well as the Cummins.
@Plumber32 you wanted to see this one done nice? Wasn’t building a show truck but working hard on it to become a good solid lasting driver.
Cab is now ready for placement on the new frame.
