Solid day today. We were planning on camping but last minute wife said let’s work on the truck. Good thing as we got a lot done. Boss asked me to do a favor for a little cash this morning which worked out then after a little sideways s*** it went super smooth.
Was 2wd this morning, totally ready for a real axle now. Man even that 2wd crap was heavy duty. Now it’s all scrap

Our parts truck arrived. Can’t be more happy with this purchase! We will be able to sell just the front axle from our other parts truck that was way to low geared for $200 more then this whole very rare Dana 61 307 setup. And we now have the correct complete front structure for the 92-93 look. Bunch of extra stuff to sell. Made money on this buy, and this is the best newest most opted 1st gen factory available so its now the VIN for our build, this’ll be the title.
Dash, front structure, axles, hood, fuel tank and lines, rear hitch, full wiring, wheels, moldings, 1 ton badges, ac system, door panels and power we windows, rear window slider, antenna, couple cab lights, springs, brakes and steering are coming from this rig.
It was a running driving truck at noon today, now not so much lol. Wife helped big time, it’s the third first gen she’s helped to tear apart in last couple months, she’s good now. Learned SAE.
It’s pressure washed ready to pull axle and steering tomorrow.

Though I’d be a little further but today has been a fight. Took a bit longer to get the axle out of the donor truck then found out only a few 4wd mounts lined up with existing 2wd frame holes. Lots of measuring and drilling.
Upsized all the bolts to 1/2” grade 8. About 10pounds worth lol.
But axle and spring mounts in. Cummins cross member, shock mounts, steering and anti sway bar to go. My previous first gens haven’t had front sway bar, was trying to figure out f I wanted one but after talking a bit to a couple members here I’m running it. Didn’t realize it till now but 1ton dually front axle is wider In the nose. Nose sure sits higher.
Long day I am beat, but that Dana sure looks sexy under Frankie. Yes the wife named it for the female version of Frankenstein because of how many trucks she’s received so far. She’ll be putting more miles on her then I so her naming the machine seems fair.

The winch works but it’s not going back on. That bumper is hideous but i am looking to do another winch but I want a little cleaner combo. Plus I want around 12k, hell my little Warns on the Pioneer are over half of this big thing. That will have to wait awhile.

But that’s the nice thing about those old up rights, they always just work. Leave steel cable on them. And they are the 12v version on a winch, if they are not strong enough with the 150’ of cable you can spoil up on their drums. You can 2 part them with a snatch, and they will still pull back as quick as a lay down winch. It’s what I have on my tow rig

I wanted to keep my 8274 but I couldn't find a mount for a newer truck that didn't look like a wart. Ended up getting a pretty penny for it though. They are FAST winches and if you double line its a 16k pull that is faster than a 15k winch...mine had 150' of synth rope on it you're always in the trees should be fine.

Well the beast is getting a beast. NV4500 professionally rebuilt with updated 5th gear and internals. Heavier duty input shaft that runs the big clutches. Better then new.
Most expensive part including the engine or the trucks I’ve bought recently but it’ll be worth it. It'll run overdrive loaded down without worry.
Solid engine with rebuild so why not trans, transfer case next.

Well I had to come home after dropping the machines off at the Yamaha shop and didn’t want to be empty so I figured I’d spend a s*** ton of money. And I didn’t want to show the railroad tie yet again, figured I’d show proof of straps for the naysayers. Need a clutch in the truck after pulling that load. POS Dodge!

You didn't want to put an Allison in it? I had a 5 speed 92 W-350 4 x 4 I bought new and installed a tool body on it. It was one of the best vehicles I ever owned. Never had one minutes problem with it other than it being a little under powered. I wish I could have put an Allison in it.

Great to see, hopefully no 5th gear backing off problems! When I had the 97 I had to drive about 1200 miles in 4th gear. Luckily I was grossing about 29,000 so it didn't seem as bad!

I absolutely didn’t want auto. Like manuals. Looked into the 6spd man but ultimately landed on the 5.

It does have the upgraded Rigid Axle 5th gear splined main with set screws, so that’s a non issue. Wife will be driving it mostly and based off our previous Cummins she lugs them pretty hard so wanted that fixed.
29k is pretty good! Tbh I don’t see us much over the 15 mark but the truck should take whatever if we decide on anything else.
