Thought I would share what I have done over the last 3 years to make our enclosed trailer suite our needs a little better.

Bought it used, it’s a 22' 2004 hallmark, for $3100.

Brought it home and tore the plywood walls off to insulate it with the pink insulation foam board you can find at Home Depot. Also sprayed the inside of the exterior aluminum sheeting with a sound deadening aerosol. DEI 050220 Boom Mat Spray-on Sound Deadening to Reduce Unwanted Road Noise and Vibration https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001URKV0G/?tag=sxsweb24-20

There’s nothing worse then you friend ol’ Smokey coughing out his right lung at 6:30 in the morning, when you stayed out late on a night run. Walls back on, insulated the roof and sheeted it with 1/4” plywood. Built some brackets under the tongue to hold 3 group 31 semi truck battery’s and wired in a 1500 watt inverter to them. Above the batteries the tongue got skinned with 3/16” aluminum sheet to hold the 2 propane tanks C4bc0345aceff1b78bc76be90f798f48
Found a pipe thread manifold that I could tie multiple lines or appliances to.
Bd55608b70ccd7a4a3ed926556e13aa1
The propane runs a rv type heater Cf537206eecefc8380d54491f41f4ae7
16ae5cc747cf4195abb26109db816d94
These are the vents on the inside that blow the heat into the living area D9f34911bd7c3153104e9319cccd51de
Used a cadet style thermostat to turn it on and off because they were a third of the cost of one made for a rv. For safety of the family I put 2 carbon monoxide/propane detectors, one next to the thermostat and the other down near the floor next to the heater unit itself. We have camped in 2’ of snow around 20 degrees out and went out for a night run, with the heater cranked to the moon it was 90 degrees when we got back

I bought some cheap utility cabinets and laminate countertop to put against the front wallAa260b8c4e67aee60e221a72dd955c49
With my wife helping out she wanted to add some interior decorations, that’s where the red roof sheeting came into play. Hindsight it made nice little channels to hide a lot of the wires behind

The barbecue clips to the wall during transport, using a rail. Used the same rail on a out side wall for when we are grilling C193a4496af5805f0b8b85cf05665179
It snaps in with a quick connect fitting for the plumbing of the gas

After dragging it off the beaten path and lightly tweaking the back door skins when it hit the ground, I welded another set of spring perches onto the axles to give it the old red neck spring over 3” lift8597f21ff951278e23a1c24e8d98fe8d

You can also see in that pic the bottom side of the in floor storage, gotta give the wife credit for this one she found the idea on a tiny homes show

It’s a great place to throw the gear you won’t need till you are there and unloaded, like the kids dirt bike boots

After loading all this weight onto the machine, than planning a really long trip in it of over 1500 miles I was scared for the wheel bearings, and the crews at work had just bent an axle, so I built a spare wheel hub assembly with the salvaged spindleB8889435293dad1cd836f2d569e68196
So in a matter of 30 mins I could be back on the road with a fresh packed set of bearings riding on a new seal

Extended the tongue out with 4”x6”x3/8” wall tube, so I could jack knife completely with out breaking out my tail lights on the front wall of the trailer 6b173af525d273c09231f97d3771088a
Also added some weight distribution levers to the tongue. The truck didn’t have to have it but it makes it so much smoother hitting bumps and curves on the freeway

Mounted a 300w solar panel mostly because it was a cheap way to try to make sure the house batteries don’t get drained when sitting for to long. You can kind of see it in this pic on the roofF40d1d818371bb5e7ef1f1de35c762ab
To hold the generator and the 15 gal fuel tank. I used a pro tech tool box. Hung from the front wall catching every cross member it had going horizontal, I hope the wall-roof seam holds up?

The fuel tank comes into the toolbox with a bulkhead fitting then “t”s to go to the continuous run fuel cap, 0da9d917e9c4590d3d7cb9f2390bd663
And also goes over to a 20’ fuel hose for fueling up the toys738f30b8bf03ca7110cfb9eb2e6d0dd9
Put some charging post, and some bins lights on the inside, and a 50’ retractable extension cordF7ceedfb8d72639e2fe51b8a6673c04bBc23fc65df9155712fcfef4b644fd429
The exhaust of the geni dumps out the side of the box, and with five other vents I hope it will be enough ventilation to keep it coolE289a350c8f83d92563b04fe0cc17f38
I load tested the geni with the a.c. Unit on witch is about 70%load on it with the door closed on a 70 degree day with the door closed for over an hour and the tool box walls got to 160degrees.

Your doing one hell-of-a job.
My wife asked if we could go this route as we searched toy haulers... At first I laughed but you gave me a different look on it... keep the pics coming...

We chose to do this to an enclosed trailer, because we had seen first hand what water damage will do to a wooden frame camper or toy hauler. I know some of the newer nicer ones now use aluminum, but you’re gonna pay for it. I wanted a steel structure with only wood for the cosmetic surfaces. I live in the wrong state for anything to be made of wood that is gonna be drug up and down forest service roads, it’s not a matter of if it will leak , but when. Then you are stuck with a ton of work repairing it, or paying a shop to repair it. I enjoy building things, making them better. But hate repairing it, because something failed. With having 2 kids in diapers when we first started this I knew it would need to be tough, and didn’t want it to hurt too bad when the kids were destroying it

Installed some backup lights on the rear, witch gave me a signal wire to be able to turn on a backup camera

The wireless signal to the screen seems decent, 28’ of trailer plus a long bed crew cab truck and the signal is strong

After lifting the trailer 3”. The ramp door was pretty steep, with any sort of moisture on it it was like ice. so I used a 2”x2” aluminum square tube with some semi trailer dock bumpers to raise the bottom of the door 5” off the ground, and cut a new piece of plywood to flip over to bridge the gap
