Sometimes. He prefers working with his hands now a days more than anything lol. That is great you still have him, does he come to deer camp?
He does as much if not more than most 20 yr olds.At least he is active and not sitting in a chair staring.
I’ll take good care of it!!Yep same here pawpaw is still living but he doesn’t hunt anymore so he passed it on and I plan to pass it on someday as well.
What caliber, model rifle does everybody use for hunting deer. I prefer my old trusty Remington 700 bdl in 270 with 150 grain core lokts
I use my rem 740 woodsmaster in ..308 my brush gun is a 1966 ruger .44 mag carbine my first gun bought new...What caliber, model rifle does everybody use for hunting deer. I prefer my old trusty Remington 700 bdl in 270 with 150 grain core lokts
Yes, and the thing that tells time! The one with the compass in the stock, right?
Old fat fart here, 30.06 remington made during ww2, sporterized, 180 grain soft point hand load, open sites, if I don't get close enough for a kill with open sites I don't shoot, nothing worse than having to track down a wounded animal in mountain terainYup a 22 will kill a deer, some rounds are just more efficient than others.
I'd rather have a quick clean takedown, no point in making the animal suffer. Also I am fat and out of shape so searching for one in the brush and thickets we have around here is not enjoyable. Im in it for the meat not the sport.
7.62X54R good round, Russian equivalent to the 30.06, have one in a VEPR rifle, using hand loads, would hunt deer or elk either one with this round. If you're in Russia, then I'd choose the semi auto SVT 40 in 54r with 10 round magazine. Make bambiburger.....DA!

Some people say the round is too antiquated as there are much newer better rounds... I say BS, good round for hunting any animal in North America, cheap and can be found in anywhere that sells ammo. The old -06 is the pioneer for the deer woods around here can’t beat something that’s won as many wars as it has!!!!
Old is always better than new don’t care what it is look at all the bs in modern vehicles compared to older style look at how much more simple life was back in the day. The 06 can’t be compared to anything. It’s been a go too for this long why change it or forget about something so effective. Some people say the round is too antiquated as there are much newer better rounds... This would be my choice if I was buying a new rifle/scope combo today. I kick myself for not buying one a few years back at Academy when they had Tikka stainless/synthetic at $399. Heck, my safe had an open spot just calling out for it also.
I screwed up, what can I say.
I do a lot of whitetail hunting. To me, the 308 I

I like the 308 too there flat shooting rounds!I’m a SAKO fan. I have both 308 and 30-06.
I primarily use the 308 for whitetail deer.
Anything larger tears up the meat.
The 308 is flat, fast, and plentiful.
I like ballistic tips.
Good Luck!!
I've hunted deer with .243, .270, 30-30, .308, and 30-06. I love them all. No matter what I use, though, I still have to track them down by their blood trail. I've never seen another creature that can run so far with their lungs (and sometimes heart) destroyed. Then, on my sons first deer hunt at age 10, he shoots a doe through the heart with a .223 and she walked around in a circle once and dropped. Go figure. But, my favorite is the 30-30 Marlin 336. For feral hogs I like any one of my three 700 BDL's, two are 30-06 and one is .270. Oh!. I almost forgot my very first high powered rifle, a 8mm Mauser that my great uncle brought back from Italy at the end of WW2. It's a deer slayer for sure.I use my rem 740 woodsmaster in ..308 my brush gun is a 1966 ruger .44 mag carbine my first gun bought new...
Bullet placement is like real estate: Location, Location, LocationI like the 308 too there flat shooting rounds!
That’s not entirely true... with a large enough caliber it doesn’t mater location.Bullet placement is like real estate: Location, Location, Location
