That’s not entirely true... with a large enough caliber it doesn’t mater location.

The opposite end of the caliber range here, I just put this together bedded down heavy barrel, sighted in and very very accurate 17 HMR target Rifle , small game not good on a windy day though,,,,:)

It's beautiful.
As a young kid growing up in a dirt poor family, I had an uncle that poached deer with a .22 short, said anything bigger may get him caught, later in life I did not approve of poaching but as a young kid growing up I ate many a venison meal taken by a well placed .22 short round.

In my neck of the woods it depends on where I'm hunting, brush and shots where I'm only getting a 150 yard or less shot I use an AR15 chambered in 300 BO with a 110gr. Barnes TAX TX bullet. Will drop a 200# deer or 400# hog in it's tracks.

In open green fields out to 500 yards it's my Remington 270(150gr. Remington Core Locks) or 308(165gr Federal with Sierra GKSP) BDLs. Both are very accurate and deadly combinations on deer and hogs.
