If the heat shield recall is due to a cylinder miss loading the exhaust with fuel and burning in the muffler, sounds like ther is another issue.
I thought the same thing. Makes you wonder if they know of issues dropping cylinders. Yours a 17 or 18?

Dealer called and said they are chasing thier tails to find a problem. He said hes been back and forth on the phone with Honda to find a solution and the only thing they have found so far is a lean condition at idle which isn't uncommon. He's supposed to get with a service manager tomorrow and see if he can get an approval to try a pcm from a floor unit just to see if that's the culprit.

That’s not very encouraging. Keep us posted and I’ll see what my dealer comes up with.

Just got back from dealer, said front spark plug fouled. Not covered under warranty but did not charge me labor. 66 miles and 9 hours and plug fouled. Left it there and told them to try it during the week. Also do exhaust sheild recall and align front end. We will see.

If I haven't Welcomed you yet Welcome! I believe you did the right thing in leaving it at the dealership, make sure they start it and drive it. Plugs can be fouled on mutable cylinder engines by no fire going to the cylinder. You all ready know this or you wouldn't have left it there. I hope the issue rears it's ugly head!

Hopefully that's the case with mine but not holding my breath. I swapped them and problem was still on the front cylinder so not really sure what's going on. Glad you were able to find a fix for yours though

Didn’t see it for myself, but they told me that fixed it. Left it there to get exhaust recall and front end alignment done. Told them to start it during the week to be sure. They are only 10 minutes from me so not a big deal. Said front plug was loaded up from idling to much.

Heard it running, didn’t hear it missing. So time will tell. Hope that’s all it was.

Welcome from WV, Hope that fixed it I think there was a post a long time ago about one acting up and it was the plugs from starting and stopping from taking it out and in side the dealership

Mine was doing pretty much the same thing, plug change fixed it, that's why I suggested it in my previous post.

Called the dealer today and they still have found no solution. He said they have been back and forth on the phone with Honda and tried replacing grounds, IACV, pcm, plugs, took fuel samples etc and nothing has fixed it. They recommended a power commander to try and see if that resolves it as the only thing they are seeing is a lean condition at idle.

I guess I'll go pick it up tomorrow and put the factory exhaust back on and see what happens. Real annoying when it's been there for weeks and nothing has changed. He did say they checked the plugs but didn't replace so I'll be buying two of those tomorrow and try as well. Back to square one I guess for now.

Picked it up Friday and it started right up and never idled crazy. Service guy was surprised. I brought it home and rode it for a bit and never had an idle issue, parked it and let it cool off. Went ahead and changed the spark plugs while I had some free time. Rode it off and on all day yesterday and never had a crazy idle. I guess only time will tell so we'll see.

Took it for first ride the weekend in Ouachita Mountains, ran fine all weekend. Guess it was the spark plugs.
