P1000 Keep Factory winch or upgrade?

Just pulled the front bumper off today (snapped a bolt ) and pulled the winch. I was gonna change it to synthetic and a hawse fairlead. Should I just upgrade the whole winch instead?

Also since I have the factory warn plow setup do I need to change the roller on there to something different?

I have the same winch and it works great. I also changed to synthetic rope. It is much nicer to use. If it works, why upgrade? If I do any hard pulling I use a snatch block and have never had a problem with the factory warn winch.

If you're not having any issues with it, no real sense in upgrading, other than replacing that steel cable with a synthetic rope and fairlead with hawse. Might be worth disassembling, cleaning and regreasing.

Right but what about the little pulley on the plow frame? Change that out too?

Not sure which plow setup you have. Are you referring to the pulley in the rope guide? (This is not mine - found this pic on the Interwebz):

My ATV plow setup uses a Warn 92100 push tube. The rope guide/pulley is on the push tube like in the picture above, except wheel in the pulley that's connected to the push tube is nylon/plastic, not steel. This is what mine looks like:

Maybe check with Warn. My set up is different. Or maybe someone with your setup will pipe in

That's just a guide. You'll be fine with it. The winch rope really doesn't move it in.

It most certainly moves, just not a lot. If it "really didn't move", it would not be a round wheel (that rotates) with a pivot point (in most models).

What's NOT good with the steel pulleys is if/when the synthetic rope gets caught between the wheel and the wall of the mount -- then you're on the bolt and risking damage.

Ended up pulling the steel cable today and mistakenly took apart the gear side thinking I needed to. Is there any cleaning or maintenance I can do while I’m in there?

Simple enough. Any special grease to use? Also brake cleaner to clean the old grease?

Side note, I’m looking at the 1/4” synthetic on Amazon and most have an eyelet on the winch side…. Do I just cut that off and fold it back on itself to attach to the drum?

I can't remember how I attached to my drum on the warn. I have 4 winches and have changed them all to synthetic rope. I'm sure you will figure it out.

As long as the synthetic rope isn't too big for that pulley and it stays in the track, you'll be fine.

I bought a synthetic rope and an aluminum hawse for about $50. It was simple to replace the wire rope to upgrade to synthetic line on the Warn 4,500 lb winch that came on the SE. No need to remove or pull anything (unless something is broken), I've heard some don't bother to replace the roller fairlead (if it's new and rollers are smooth - otherwise it can trash the synthetic rope).

Got the winch cleaned up with brake cleaner and ran it through the ultrasonic cleaner too. Gotta order new warn tie rods and repack it up. Do you think I need to order new seals also?
