But we shook the dust off and continued on, the drive was a well maintained FSR and the scenery was great.

Next up, we unhooked the tiny trailer and started the slow climb to burnt knob, only 1.5 miles but about a 20 minute trip up because it’s VERY rough.

Just before we started up however, we spotted a Honda P1K off the side of the trail.

A look back at the wilderness and a piece of the trail we’d just been on....

And the first views of the abandoned look out tower.

Natural alpine lakes below the lookout station and a doe on top of the mountain. Rain was brewing, and the wind began kicking, so we didn’t loiter long at the top.

It’s a shame that this is being left open to the elements and deteriorating. It would make such a great cabin that could be cleaned up and rented.

It’s built literally setting atop solid rock and anchored by four guy wires.

Made it back to the main trail and hooked the tiny trailer back up and continued east.

Rain finally caught up to us, but it was light, cooled things off, and knocked the dust down.....woo hoo

The rain was beautiful, with the sun shining at the same time it looked like diamonds falling. Saw some nice deer about that time and then a spectacular rainbow!!!

We made it back down to the Selway and found a beautiful campsite for the night...

A very short trail to the river and views from there, and camp at dusk, food on the stove...

Cut a jig of wood for the evening, sipped a little Don Julio and had a good Cuban and a couple brewskis.

The squaw brought her a potty chair, says it was the best $15.00 she ever spent.

Storage was PACKED...

First few miles out the next morning we came to the confluence of deep creek with the Selway and a very handsome rock CCC bridge.

And a place to cool our feet.

Stopped and cooked our first hot lunch, not far from Castle Rock....Spiced the freeze dried dish up a bit and added a left over sausage patty to it from breakfast back at Elk City the previous day.

We took an afternoon break at the Fales Flats campground, the trail has been following Deep Creek all day.

Was hoping you’d get that rain from the last storm we got, but must’ve fizzled out. Still any rain is a good thing.

Yes sir, it was great!!! Just enough to cool things down and kill the dust, the main benefit...

We arrived at the Painted Rocks lake late in the afternoon, and drove the entire way around it to a camp ground on the southern end where the west fork of the Bitterroot comes in.
