your in a cool area, there is alot to it, he is in a low hot area with alot of mud, slow speeds and leaner from the pipe= alot hotter than stock, and alot people complain about the stock 1000 heat

First of all I own that machine with that exact pipe so I do know what I’m talking about. The new pipe kills off the catalytic converter which if you know what those are they are meant to get hot. It also frees up the exhaust so it can flow better so the slightly leaner (a properly tuned programmer is suggested) setup actually runs cooler in the rear. Temp went down in my 1000. There were a couple problems including a recall on factory pipe(was given three of them notices) that’s not been a problem on HMF. Also the aftermarket setup doesn’t require the factory heat shields much less even accept them. Flat out won’t fit.
It does get over 100 here, we do still have mud/water and I probably average slower average speeds then most. Yes I’m very well aware the 1000 can get hot lol.

I do have the PCV installed but one injector wouldn’t fire so new one is in route. I did the exhaust and PCV at same time so hoping to see some improvement in low end response. Also redid my snorkel and found a flexible 90 under the cup holder that had about 1.75” ID so I think it was restricted some. Now I’m full size entire way.

Interesting note is the exhaust had a tag on it that said tuning required or warranty was void on exhaust. Went to HMF website to see if they had a specific tune for it and it states in two different places that no tuning is required

With your snorkel, after market exhaust, and now a power commander. Your warranty is null and void. I know not allthe dealerships are the same. But have heard enough horror stories. I had a dealership give me grief from a snorkel, when going in for the clutch update, and also trying to get an extended warranty claim covered on a rear passenger seat belt that was stuck, it wouldn’t go in or out

Oh yeah I knew my machine warranty was done, I was referring to the warranty on the exhaust. Not that I care about it just thought it was funny

the only way it would be cooler is if you richen the tune whatever way you desire, really the only way you see the power from the pipe and air is to add fuel to match, is also very dangerous to run lean they run way to hot when you just willy nilly mod them without caring. got a few pistons with holes from people doing that. personally have used the dobeck ejk, only 2 hundred and you can add and subtract fuel from easy buttons

I’m not going to just add or subtract not knowing but there are lots of people running the aftermarket exhaust and PCV with stock tune and they all say it helps with low end power and the motor runs cooler. Good thing is I can always go right back if I don’t like it or see a problem.

quite impossible actually that would run cooler with more air and exhaust. the only possible thing it runs exactly the same, that would only be the case if honda build enough adjustment into the stock tune to make up for the mods, but seems fairly unlikely. out of the maybe dozen quads ive modded none ran right after, most lean pop and run twice as hot. the dobeck comes with what they call stage one tune which is a little more than stock exactly what every one does, pipe and filter. i didnt have to touch it. the can am went from burning my feet with shoes out like a biker on the floorboard edge to wearing sanddles riding in the mud less than 10 mph all day, also never having to clean the rad, at the same place the stock tune guys in my club have to clean the rad at lunch because the light is on

you dont know there is a problem until its too late, on some they just run too hot but, isnt good for oil, or the engine that will break over time because the oil wears out so fast

Well if they made one for 2016 Pioneer 1000 I probably would try it but it looks like they don’t. There’s two 1000’s in my shop and would be fun to compare

they did have one, when i looked a few months ago, think the ones with the o2 were the auto tune(feedback via o2), before was just the tune you change
knowledge of mods and what needs done is extremely common on all the other sites and what happens. honda site though dont seem like many do.
but if you search for less common terms maybe you could look up what happens to verify, pipe and filter is extremely common mod for alot of people except honda people i guess.

HMF exhaust in and power commander 5 worked out. Wow what a mean sounding exhaust system. Much more responsive and seems to have much better low end torque in the mud to spin the 32’s. No change top end but didn’t want or expect that.

It kicked out of gear twice on me today when I had it deep in the mud and was pulling hard so I have to adjust my trans cable before much more playing.

Didn’t do full all day run but had couple hours seat time and very impressed so far

Update on my 1000-5.

PCV is removed and Pioneer has been doing good. Broke another winch cable at last ride. Had 1/4” x 65’ so went up to 5/16” x 50’ to see if it holds up. Definitely full spool and took some work to get on there but i think it’s a stout cable.

Also got me a new trailer finally. 7x20 car hauler big enough to fit mine and my buddies 1000’s if needed. Love the setup and I don’t even have to use the ramps, just drive it up the dovetail. And the stake pocket inserts with D rings are awesome. Switched to wheel straps too and love that setup.

Everything else is about the same. Few pics from our last ride.

Thanks. I used to wash it completely after every ride but I now have a test mud hole behind my shop so now when I get bored I run it through there. So I pretty much just spray off under it and the suspension each time. The red looks good dirty to me

Is that the one that I broke too? It looks like it. I went with Amsteel and haven't had any issues since. Looks like yall had a good time :D

yep same one you broke. I went up to 5/16” one with 20k break strength vs the 7k if the other. If this one breaks I’m definitely going Amsteel but this one looks very good
