I'm heading to California on Wed for a meeting with Honda about the changeover to SHOWA Shocks for the 2024 Talon 1000s.
Honestly, I know very little about shocks. So I'm asking you for help.

What questions do you have for Honda regarding the SHOWA Shocks?
I'll present a few to the Honda techs and try to get some info/answers on them.

Thanks.

Tough to have many questions without some ride reports. The one big one would be loss of ability to set ride height/preload.

#metoo Are the shock bodies threaded? Someone here said they aren't. Major screw up. If the shock bodies aren't threaded, I don't think they can have crossover rings.

Do they still use crossover technology? Or did they revert to the earlier X's dual springs with no crossover rings? If they did that, another Major Screw Up. :( Crossovers have been the go-to tech for off roaders for decades.

The Showa shocks have no threads at all

Just getting into reading up on the shocks... Being a complete novice on the issue but I am curious.. What the reasoning for the change was?

And could you ask them... Where the heck the machines with the 520 engines are? I am looking for a Foreman Quad and no one can seem to get one. Same for the Pioneer 520...

Just a guess here.....
Are the base Talons just that now? As in, if you want tech & adjustability you need to be buying the LV.

Evidently so. But, the salesman indicated to me that Honda is heading away from Fox.
Showa makes a good shock, or at least used to, I used them back in my racing days, but just like the Fox they're building to order for Honda. I don't think these have been out long enough for anyone to make an informed decision on these ones yet. If they turn out to be less than stellar blame Honda, not Showa

I would guess Price Point is the reason for many of the unliked changes in both Talon and Pioneer.
*Good but not high end shocks.
*Honda hood Sticker instead of a chrome badge.
*Halogen instead of LED headlights.
*Half finished aux. switches plus no explanation of what to do with them in the owner’s manual.
*Welded on mirror bracket but no mirror.
*Less than stellar welding quality.
*Using a single 10mm bolt on front upper A arms(even their first UTVs had dual bolts) and then switched to dual bolts. Why did they try the single bolt if not to cut costs?
So on and so forth……
They put the money and effort into the stuff that matters the most to us, Reliability.
Despite most of this they know their customers are a loyal bunch and will continue to buy Honda. Though in some regards they are venturing close to run of the mill.
I know this isn’t “shocking” to most of us.

Then no crossover tech and a much more complicated ride height adjustment (unless they've got something up their sleeves). :(

WTF are they thinking? 😒
Depending on the valving crossover may not be needed. Real world is where it counts. I would not discount something on the basis of no crossover. I certainly understand the curiosity on this though.

Agree before getting all nutso critical and negative let’s seek to understand what their theory is -
