New toy: trailer scale

I am loading my box trailer to close to the tow limit of my Tow vehicle so I wanted to know what the tongue weight is.
I had seen a YouTube for a scale that fits on the tongue jack but when I googled it there was another scale that looked more useful.
Got a Sherline trailer tongue weight scale.
They come in several weight ranges, I got the 5,000 lb.
Scale sits on the floor jack and you jack up what you want to weigh.

I was able to weigh the whole trailer by lifting each side of the frame in front and behind the wheels (two axle), average the number for the weight center of the axles.
Add up both sides and the tongue for the total weight.
I have drop axles, with straight axles you could pick up each axle directly.
Once I had the total, put the scale under the coupler and roll the load around to get the optimum tongue weight.

Scale comes with an extension to reach up in the the coupler.

Or take the extension out and go weigh the tractor and the manure spreader and the…

That looks really useful. I am building a small overlanding trailer to pull behind our Pioneer and could use something like that.

Pretty cool, I have 2 of the weigh safe hitches, one for 2" receiver 14k limit and a 3" receiver for 21k limit. I really like these too,

Can be had from 2" to 8" drop models.

So funny - I have been debating on the 8" WS drop for a couple weeks now...the $350 price tag has had me holding off. I need one next weekend though so not sure what I'm going to do....

For sure, I literally just bought one. Guy has it setup for best offer and I offered $200. I'd try $175 and sneak up on whatever his auto accept threshold is if you're thinking of buying one.

Edit - this is the one I'm trying to get listed at $256.00 WS 8-2.5 Aluminum Trailer Hitch With Stainless Steel Tow Balls | eBay . It looks like the one you were bidding on was $224..I might need to go up a bit.

Just an update - canceled the $175 offer and put in one at $225....wasn't auto-accepted either, but just said screw it and waited. Woke up this morning and showed offer was accepted. $240 total shipped is a lot better than $350! Thanks @CumminsPusher @Adam490

Maybe it wasn't the same seller? Or you picked a different model than I did? I got the WS6-2

I double checked, it was definitely the same seller - I figured you got a different model. The one I ordered was a WS8-2.5. Thanks again for the heads up!

I have had one of the scales like in the original post for probably 20 years. I never even thought about putting it on a floor jack. Duh! Thanks for the great idea!👍

I had the 2" Drop traded it off and got the 6", I've towed 12.5 with it and can't say there's a mark on it. the 2" ball is only good to 10k, the 2-5/16" goes to 14k on the 2" receiver model.
