So I really did it this week. My buddy from Michigan came down for the week and we spent it hog hunting up in Alabama. Well, on the first day we got to camp we took off in the pioneer to go check the cameras. I had recently just made a dog box for the pioneer so I was a little heavier than I'm use too with 2 people and two dogs. While crossing a creek I've crossed hundreds of times I bottomed out a little hard on a rock. I should have checked...
About 2 miles later while climbing up a hill I went to down shift to second and that's when the engine let out this awful squeal and stalled out. At that point in time I knew exactly what had happen. I jumped under it and saw oil all over the skid plate. Crap... When walking back to camp we saw where the oil had started. About a mile after the creek a steady line of oil was in the road. The oil stopped about a mile from where the pioneer died. So I ran her that far without oil.
When I made it back to the pioneer I decided to try and bump the starter to see if the engine had seized. To my surprise it turned right over and started!!! I shut it off quickly and thought a ray of hope! After taking the skid plate off there was some damage to the case at the bottom but the threads for the plug looked good? I guess it hit so hard it loosened the plug and it worked its way out?
Next day made the trip into town and got a new plug and a couple quarts of amsoil. Filled her up, got the plug nice and tight then put 100 miles on it the over the next two days. She's running like nothing ever happened!! Lucked out there! Either that's a shout out for Honda's toughness or amsoil, one of the two.
