My old college room mate and I are staying in no cost (free) campground 3 miles from town on FR585 (Forest Road). He tells me there are several campgrounds along the road. Look up Silverton on google maps and you can see them.

Going to spend a few days with the group. Then headed to Utah for a week or so.

Internet and cell service is excellent IN Silverton but disappears completely not far out of town in any direction, so at lodging, SXS site communication will work. There is a city park at the north end of town on main past the courthouse which would be a good meeting place for Sunday evening or Monday morning for meet and greet and blastoff.

Nope. Service in non existent a short distance out of town. Set it to airplane mode and use it for a camera. None on top of passes either.
